In addition to the 22 starters.
So we played 56, and did not play Ambagtsheer, Suani, Toki, Hansen O’keefe, Granfors. among others. Just listed guys who’ve had playing time before, most of whom are on depth chart.

I missed which wide receivers Hawk was high on.
We played a lot of two tight end and had Tompkins as a wide receiver, so not a lot of opportunity for wide receivers to get into the game. Babb didn’t even get much action.
On defense I think they took a few series to adjust because we were playing lighter quicker people on the line and five DBs.

2018,2019,2020,2021,2022,2023 Five years. If he sits out this season he’s got one year left.

When did KDVS stop covering games? Or do they sometimes still do it? I used to listen to them in the early 2000s and they were good. I can’t believe we’ve stuck with Doug Kelly so long, just never hear anything I didn’t know. Then there are the contradictory statements. In pregame this team has the most depth ever. Then near end of game “Cal is wearing them down with more players” , to which Marsh replies, they brought the whole team, and Kelly replies more players the coaches are willing to play. So I guess we have a deep team if you count players the coaches don’t trust to play.

The eligibility rules seem to always have exceptions, but he’s been on three rosters already, CCSF, Cal, CCSF. The five year clock started ticking for him in 2018, so wherever he goes he likely only has one year. His best shot at playing was to stay here. I think he’ll probably move on from football.
The coaching staff here is not quick to make a big deal over transfers. They make them earn it.

During the radio broadcast it was clear that they weren’t going to say his name or anything else about him.

For guys at the game, any observations regarding the defensive line personnel? According to box score we started the game in a 3-3-5, and either didn’t play or played very sparingly the guys listed in the nose guard position on the depth chart. Result was that they held Cal to less rushing yards and yards per carry than the average opponent last year. The box score lists two guys who are new in the starting role on the line Noa Masui and Evan Bearden. Neither did much statistically but that doesn’t always tell the story.

Definitely. When they were making the transition to D1, he didn’t even have the full complement of scholarships. In that transition period we had some solid teams, but had some horrific travel schedules. He was a great QB too.
  • Week 1: UC Davis (0-0) @ Cal (0-0)
Judging by the box score we started off with a 3-3-5 defense, without any of the big guys we commonly played last year, like Chubba Maea. Chubba did make it into participant list, but he sometimes was used on special teams, but Suani, Toki, Ambagtsheer did not make the listing.

I think that was a Tim Plough feature. He did no huddle as his signature thing at Northern Arizona,. Why it left with him is a open question but maybe inexperienced QB is a factor.
  • Week 1: UC Davis (0-0) @ Cal (0-0)
I think it was an encouraging game for the defense.

That comment by Hawkins doesn’t make any sense, except that he thinks this team can be as good as last, and he thinks last years team was the best. Actually it’s not a high bar, because we’ve not had many great teams in div 1.

Just drawing the inference the roster change implies,
  • Week 1: UC Davis (0-0) @ Cal (0-0)
He’s gone. It seems the clocks ticking on him since he’s been on rosters for three years. If he goes elsewhere might not have two years eligibility,
Of lesser immediate import is recruit Lyrik Fata. He’s not on the roster but re-tweets team tweets. Maybe he’s just doing something else this year.
  • Week 1: UC Davis (0-0) @ Cal (0-0)
I get the disappointment but we aren’t getting very far unless our offensive line and running attack are up to the best in the Big Sky and our defense is at the level of our competitors. in the spring season last year we tried to do exactly what Zander was suggesting to be run heavy, and to not make the QB carry the offense.
I don’t think the plan was to have Hastings win the job, but something happened and he did, at least for now..
I don’t think Cal gives a plug nickel who our QB is, so the likelihood that this is a disinformation campaign is low.

    From. BigSky Conference:
There is no travel squad limit for non-Conference contests (including FBS) when air travel and/or overnight lodging are not involved.
  • Week 1: UC Davis (0-0) @ Cal (0-0)
Agreed, why not just say it’s the most talented group. As a team they haven’t shown it yet.
  • Week 1: UC Davis (0-0) @ Cal (0-0)
A surprising entry in the depth chart is Porter Connors at middle linebacker. Calvin Mouisset is pretty good and not listed. I’m not reading anything into this other than they must think highly of Porter. Are the two Connors brothers identical twins? Same height, within a pound of each other and really look alike.
  • Week 1: UC Davis (0-0) @ Cal (0-0)
The base play certainly hasn’t worked consistently for us. Maybe that’s due to later in the season or that we play better teams later, like last year.
  • Week 1: UC Davis (0-0) @ Cal (0-0)
His not being listed in the game roster or depth chart raises that question,
