Just out of curiously does anyone think there’s a chance we rest Lan for the first round of playoffs so we can see what fisher is capable of? Fisher will likely be the future and it’s time to see what he can do. Also when will Madcheroni play?

ABSOLUTELY NOT! We can’t take any opponent lightly, fisher is the next Gilliam for the aggies although this is the larison empire until next year.

Regarding Lan resting, not a chance unless game is clearly decided.
If they wanted to see what Fisher could do, they would have let him play in the out of conference games early in the season. They seem to belatedly decided he is the number 2 running back but they are going to play Larison most the time including on special teams.

Agreed, I’m sure lan is back at home eating some good turkey and mac and cheese. He will be rested and ready to go!

Yes totally agree with you on that one you can’t rest on your laurels until the last play is played.
On another note someone before me wrote that the NFL teams now mostly views RBs as lost leaders due to high rate of injuries and missed time on the field. So RBs are not highly regarded or drafted. Christian McCafferty is a case study. MVP last season and now he is just recovering from his bilateral Achilles injuries and not doing well. LL is also a case study in that he is a proven RB but also a very skilled receiver. Would he be drafted as a backup RB or WR? I would think the Niners and Seahawks are watching him. Very closely. Former sac RB Skattabo close behind, but a very different player speed wise.

Yeah but man is fisher explosive! I’m thinking he my be able to add a whole other element to our offense. Unfortunate Miles will be done after this year but a 7th year hastings with young fisher in the back field would be dynamic! I’m still a believer that Hastings can be a dual threat, I’m expecting some designed runs in the post season.

All hands on deck for Round 1.

I don't think Miles will ever be considered a dual threat QB. Even dating back to HS he's the definition of a pocket passer. He can scramble if needed, but he is the least mobile QB currently on our roster by what I would consider a wide margin.

I'm guessing that we will have a thunder and lightning RB rotation next season with Vargas and Fisher. Tough to replace the productivity of a Walter Peyton level player in Lan, but I think that we're in good hands. I think adding in the wrinkle of a QB who actually can take designed runs will change the look of the offense somewhat.

Our offense will look very differently next year. I expect Harper to be the starter. BTW, regarding Lan and the playoffs, he’ll be getting the majority of the touches. Fischer will get his time, but i expect Plough to come out with all his weapons and keep the throttle all the way forward.

We have a recent history of giving 90% of carries to one back.

Maybe if we get up a few scores Fisher gets a few more attempts.

Regarding Harper being the QB next year - He has been on the team for five years already and has negligible game experience. He has a shot at earning the role but he shouldn’t be given the role. Ideally you want to develop a player who can be around for more than one year, and Harper can’t. Plough has given the reins to a freshman before when he was OC at NAU.

I hear ya, but my money is on Harper.

In our blowout over Cal Poly, we missed an opportunity to play our 2 (Harper, limited time) and 3rd QB.

Two weeks later, Razor got some PT, 2 for 2, and 2 carries for 37 yards vs Northern Colorado. He looked extremely mobile.

    Current QB backups

    Grant Harper - HS 2020 - ??
    David Razor - HS 2023 - mobile
    Caden Pinnick - HS 2024 - mobile - DNP
    Damon Wrighster - HS 2024 - mobile - DNP

I think Damon is our future, but like i said my money is on Harper for next year as to who is next years starter.

Fisher will be sprinkled in for Lan for brief respites, and likely if up multiple scores late will get more action. However, I don’t necessarily think it will be easy to get up to a very comfortable margin, especially if it is Illinois State. But Fisher will definitely get touches and is the definite #2 back at this point.

The action clips on Wrighster are very good. Never saw any on Harper. Or the others. Wrighster could add a dimension that we have not seen for a long time. QB with speed and mobility.

Will Harper earn his degree this Spring?

I seem to recall the Ags having a QB with the last name of Wright when I was in school so it's kind of fun they are going back to that nameset.

My wife and I are having a no kid date during the game next week, hoping I'll get a chance to watch/listen to most of it.

Then again, I'm choosing to see Wicked tomorrow by myself instead of Cal so maybe it's my fault lol.

Battle of the red avian! Looking forward to see who we will be taking on next week. If I had to guess Illinois State takes this one. SEMO has a potent passing attack, but have been on a downward trajectory after a strong start to the season.

I think Illinois State is going to take it, but I also think they'll need to put up 35+ to do it.
  • CA Forever

Illinois State runs a pretty balanced offense, but are only scoring 27.3 points per game (29.8 points per game if you take out the game against Iowa). If SEMO breaks off some explosive scoring plays with their passing game it may be harder for the redbirds to catch up.

I think Illinois State's defense is pretty underrated though. Again take out the game against Iowa and they are only allowing 21.8 points per game and just 14.3 over the last 4 games of the season.

SEMO moves down the field with passing game for first score. Ironically SEMO couldn’t stop IL state short passing game either on first drive but their drive stalled deep in SEMO territory. Secondaries and pass rushes are going to be tested.
  • NCagalum

A bit more press coverage and some pressure on DeLaurent stops second SEMO drive. Interesting adjustments. Teams feeling each other out. SEMO stacking the box big time.
