I've never seen a game quite like it. SEMO had 80+ passing attempts in the game and turned the ball over 8 times (could have been 10+) and still had the game within 1 score. Illinois State put themselves in good position for the turnovers, but most were largely due to SEMO errors. While SEMO didn't run the ball at all, Illinois State just didn't run the ball well. Very very sloppy football all around.
It's not uncommon, after a Thanksgiving haze, that games aren't played that crisply in Rd. 1 --- that's why first round BYEs are so huge...you give yourself the break to not only heal, but bypass the holiday then get back to work afterwards for the Round 2 game.
Man that box score is wild. 557 passing yards, 85 passing attempts, 8 turnovers.
Gut reaction having not watched the game is that as long as we don’t turn the ball over, we’ll be fine. I mean, Illinois St clearly couldn’t stop SEMO besides the turnovers. And the fact that you were +7 in turnovers and only won by 8 is a bad look. A win is a win but still.
