From Bob Dunning's Substack column:

“There were instances early where we were not playing Aggie basketball,” said UC Davis head coach Jim Les.

“We were very cool at the start, but we did show some resolve to get back into the game.”

“We had a lot of breakdowns in the second half, especially on defense down the stretch that really hurt us,” Les added.

“We did not make them uncomfortable very often on the defensive end.”

I hope the Ags don't overlook this game. It's a Monday night game during Thanksgiving week so there will probably be a small crowd so, with Louisiana coming in after being blown out by Santa Clara, this may be a hard game to get up for.

Sac State linemen enter Causeway Classic with a plan: ‘We’re gonna smash you’

Marion has called “Coach K-Rich the best in the country,” and he has praised the linemen for their work. Marion challenged the Hammerheads to hammer away earlier this season, and they have responded.

“We’re definitely a power run-team,” Richardson said. “We’re gonna smash you in the face and come at you and attack you with various run schemes. At the end of the day, my guys are going to ram into you harder than anyone is going to ram into us.”

“Every lineman in the county wants to run the ball,” coach Richardson said. “You want to impose your will by ramming into people as much as possible, being violent, being tough, putting guys on the ground. Every lineman wants to do that, and our guys have completely bought into that and love every second of it.”

I listened to Les in the radio post-game or at least most of it since the radio feed was constantly breaking up. On the positive side, Les liked the team's resilience for coming back from getting down 10-0 in the first couple of and playing tough for 30 minutes and the play of Rocak and Wilson. What he didn't like was all the breakdowns on defense. He said, "We didn't make things difficult for them and they shot 60%. We simply had too many defensive breakdowns."

Ags fall 95-79.

Buffs pulling away 80-71 with 3:53 to go. The Ags look gassed...tough to defend Colorado's size at high altitude as well...

I think it's the best game I've ever seen him play. Really good to see how his confidence has grown on shooting the 3.

Not negative...Ags are hanging tough but things like not getting back on transition defense more than once can be the difference in a game like this...don't want to beat ourselves...

Crappy blocking call on Sevilla.

Ags are not getting back on defense in transition and it's costing them.

Really good to see Niko and Marcus stepping up.

Sevilla is practically in constant motion trying to get open often making a full circle around the half court. Teams with quick, taller defenders are making it really tough for him to get much time for an open look. He's been forced into pretty much a catch and shoot situation without much time to get his feet set.

I heard about this. USC and Michigan are not happy about it because they feel they would not benefit from it as much as other teams.

Teams have been focusing on shutting down Sevilla lately and he has had trouble getting open looks.

43-39 Colorado at the break. If we can start hitting some 3's and toughen up the defense a little we can win this game. Too many wide open looks for the Buffaloes.

Wilson is keeping the Ags within reach.

Les is not going to be happy with the Ags not getting back on defense.

We have not shown that we are a good, consistent 3 point shooting team so far this year and that's going to be a problem especially against teams with a definite size advantage.

And the amazing thing is that they look much quicker than us as well.
