  • Week 4: Weber State @ UC Davis
Weber unquestionably should be favored in the game. The biggest reason is Davis barely beat them last year when they had their QB out, and aside from that win, they’ve owned Davis for years, and they have an impressive win against a what is probably a not very good FBS team.
Comparative stats don’t mean much after 3 games when Davis played two teams tougher than anyone Weber has played, and Weber has played a division 2 team.

Injuries influence lineup in all games so I don’t think we know if there is a trend. Big defensive linemen out vs Cal. But we’ve got more options in defensive linemen than we had last year.
We’ve been playing a number of new guys on defense a significant amount , at all positions. I think it’s going to jell, and then we can see what Combs wants to do.

Connors has been on the depth chart at middle linebackers since the start of the season. But Smalley said they recently moved Porter to join the in the Inside linebacker group, but didn’t say when. Both Smalley and Connors started, one in place of Buchanan. Buchanan is listed at weak side linebacker,
I don’t see how they split the linebackers up into two groups coached by different assistants in apparently different “rooms”. It seems guys move between inside and outside linebackers quite a bit.

2021 was a favorable schedule only because of the sequence of the games but the schedule this year isn’t tougher by a significant amount. League is about the same except for Montana State instead of Eastern Washington and this year we played South Dakota State in place of Dixie State.
  • Week 3: San Diego (1-1) @ UC Davis (0-2)
That’s my recollection too, but maybe it’s on you tube or someplace,
Speaking of the block, Tattersall got that and made some other good plays. I think he’s going to end up starting or playing more,

The live camera didn’t capture the blocked punt or the Kraft touchdown, which was out of view at the back corner of the endzone. Games almost always show the punt, so that was unique.

Too bad we’re not playing Georgia Tech this week,

The comparative score algorithms haven’t got enough data yet.

I didn’t take it that you were.

Denigrating a religion is more dangerous to society than denigrating a school. There is more history of religious persecution than scholastic persecution.
BYU student body is 98% Mormon.
I bet the Oregon chant was inspired by the racial epithet hoax by the Duke volleyball player.
  • Week 4: Weber State @ UC Davis
They’ll be better because they lost theit starting QB the game before they played us last fall.
  • Week 3: San Diego (1-1) @ UC Davis (0-2)
it was shown last year several times and got stopped once if I recall right..
  • Week 3: San Diego (1-1) @ UC Davis (0-2)
Edit I missed Rex’s name, he did start after all.. His brother Porter started in Buchanan’s place, but they rotated a lot of linebackers. They had four linebackers start: Eaton, Smalley Connors, and Trimble.
  • Week 3: San Diego (1-1) @ UC Davis (0-2)
It may count against a limit, but their league doesn’t count it as being an athletic scholarship, so the school is still non-scholarship. So San Diego, hypothetically, could give out 60 financial or scholastic scholarships and not exceed an FCS limit. Not saying they do.
Then there is income based tuition. If Princeton pays 100% of attendance costs for middle income families, that’s not a scholarship but certainly an incentive for an athlete offered admission.
  • Week 3: Big Sky Schedule and Scores
NAU is looking like the better team against North Dakota, despite missing 2 field goals, they’re leading 14-13. They will be a tough game. The audio on the broadcast has been missing for virtually the whole half.
  • Week 3: San Diego (1-1) @ UC Davis (0-2)

When Davis non scholarship I remember coaches of opponents saying the same.
The Ivys are non scholarship, they just pay the costs of attendance for some other reason.
  • Week 2: UC Davis (0-1) @ South Dakota State (0-1)
Re Still not stretching the field
It seems to me we are playing a lot of possession type receivers, often with two tight ends and have a very short passing game. It’s crowded in the depth we’re trying to pass into, and we don’t have enough of a run game to keep defenders near the line of scrimmage. Even receivers who are big play threats like Tompkins aren’t real speed guys. No replacement yet for Harrell. I think Babb might be our fastest (not sure about that), but he hasn’t caught a pass this year. Davis has had success but he’s only got decent speed.
  • Week 3: Big Sky Schedule and Scores
Four Missouri Valley vs BigSky games.
Sac at Northern Iowa will be interesting and North Dakota at Northern Arizona also.
  • Week 3: San Diego (1-1) @ UC Davis (0-2)
Interesting that San Diego’s passing coordinator for the last two seasons is now our tight end coach.
    From his profile:
“ Taylor Chapatte enters his first season in 2022 as the Aggies tight ends coach. Chapatte comes to Davis from the University of San Diego, where he spent four seasons as an assistant coach.
Chapatte was the pass game coordinator/quarterbacks coach for two seasons with the Toreros and was the wide receivers coach the previous two seasons. ”
  • Week 2: UC Davis (0-1) @ South Dakota State (0-1)
    Throws more interceptions than TDS?
    Let’s see. 3 TDs 1 interception.
Total lack of a run game and he passed for 273 yards. If we had some semblance of a balanced offense he would have looked better with those stats.
  • Week 2: UC Davis (0-1) @ South Dakota State (0-1)
Our running backs are too good to not gain 3 yards a carry. What accounts for it?
Davis traditionally can’t run the ball against the better teams.
Reminds me of the Biggs era, when he had to bring in another coach to help Plough because the Davis blocking was so geared to moving laterally like for screens and sweeps that they didn’t develop the skills to block vertically. We always look like we’re a scrappy D2 team playing above our weight class.
