  • 2024 Week 12: #2 Montana State (10-0) @ #4 UC Davis (9-1)
Just getting back from the game. Packed house. Had the pleasure of being behind a boisterous but friendly Montana State fan waiting for Woodstock's and a beer. Outside of the Montana's he said this was the best stadium/atmosphere in the Big Sky by far.

We can nitpick things like the fact I could have a full conversation for 15 minutes waiting for food but the gameday atmosphere was special tonight and more importantly the product on the field was special. Incredibly proud of the fight the team showed to comeback.

This is truly what separates aggie fandom from other fandoms. Montana State standing out as a true outlier. Impressive work.

Massive win. Just an impressive performance in all aspects. Go Ags!
  • Week 1: UC Davis (0-0) @ Cal (0-0)
3 years ago the band was also a no show. Even pre end of band-uh the university started to be more regulated on travel and thus crushed the band traveling to away games. It was hot in the stadium today, so can't be too discouraged by attendance.

    That was me!

And yea, looks like you guys were right. Either way, the whole USD sidelines were undisciplined with both coaches and players shouting back at the students. Very satisfying win.

Harbaugh was the Coach of USD during that Josh Johnson game in 2007 It was my last game as Aggie Pack emcee. He even did some trash talking himself to the students during the game. Totally classless. I assumed he would flame out at Stanford because he was such a jerk. I was totally wrong there.

Seeing Johnson talk trash and then cry in sadness when they lost was a highlight of a very tough first season at Aggie Stadium.
  • No Big Sky football this fall
Our players are young. They are sons to many parents on this board. If any player dies from the virus it's a preventable tragedy. It's not worth the risk. We also don't know the long term effects of this virus.

Look at SIDs for instance. We changed the whole way we put babies in cribs as a nation for less than a thousand deaths a year. Kids trust adults to make the right choices. We are making the right choice.

Experts? Let's look at our own community. UC Davis has multiple professors providing expertise. It's pretty cool actually to see how often we are cited on a variety of studies. Click here.

If the scientific consensus is late, it doesn't mean it is wrong. If the CDC says we should wear masks, we should all agree on that. We are learning more about this virus everyday. We will know a lot more in months.
  • Football in the spring?

If there was an event where we suddenly needed experts on the knowing all logos of FCS teams, I would be there to save the day. This not that event though and I have a very rudimentary understanding of viruses. So let's trust experts.

The governments that seem to be handling this the best are the one's that are letting the experts on health/science/economics drive the decisions. For instance, Australia has a rather conservative PM and even though he was horridly unpopular from the wild fires, even ardent liberals are happy with his leadership right now.

As graduates from one of the top Universities on earth, I think we can continue to use this thread to discuss if there will be an Aggie Football season citing experts/research without needing to get lost in political tit for tat.
  • Football in the spring?

We are all Aggies, we don't need to go down a rabbit hole of blaming one side or the other on this forum. There isn't some grand conspiracy of evil liberals keeping your football from being played, it's scientists and health experts making the best decisions to keep this very dangerous virus from spreading. The virus is here and potentially our actions in the coming weeks and month can make it possible for football to be played. However, those decisions will be based on science, data, and facts.
  • Football in the spring?

Hopefully new data about transmission outdoors is verified by other research institutions. However, until epidemiologists or health experts are asserting that the virus doesn't spread outdoors, we can't count on one random graph from someone on twitter. Also citing Barnes Law on a research paper about viral spread would get me an F on that paper.

Cherry picking points of information isn't going to be the way Universities like Davis are going decide if they are going to allow football to be played. Once again this isn't political. This is a decision based on science/safety/data.
  • San Jose game out?
If we are discussing the impact of COVID-19 on there being a football game this fall, let's just do our best as graduates from one the best research university in the world to try to cite actual verified scientific sources. There is nothing wrong with advocating for a quicker return, let's just make sure we are smart about the sources we read/share.
  • San Jose game out?
@movie A UC Davis education should have taught you how to accurately find information from reliable and authoritative sources.

We literally are doing some of the groundbreaking research on how this disease is spread. For instance this paper was written by Professor William Ristenpart. Please avoid the conspiracy theories. We are one of the premier research and science institutions in the world. Let's act like it.

Two classy looking timeless logos right there.

For those of us that don't have passes, what did they arrange?
  • Football Stadium Expansion
AggeFinn and I got stuck in a concession line starting at halftime through the 3rd quarter. UNI fans behind us were remarking they travel to a lot of places and were not impressed by this experience. Lots of places for improvement. Beer only lines would be a start.

PS- Props to Finn for getting my beer.
