the wood misinformation team keeps mucking up the waters by pushing the 30-35 mil number out to media but then whispering that it is just promises of money and that it is that total OVER 10 years. Also the fact that some of that was contingent on PAC membership. I am sure they got some now and are betting on themselves with coach marion and these 1 year rentals all of which will be gone after a year. I worry what will happen to their program after they and Marion leave for greater $. Hopefully it works out but it is a big gamble, especially doing it by independent route

Who knows...but I think they must have a bucket of it somewhere given all of these 4 and 5 star FBS transfers that Marion has brought in.

They didn’t come for the money, they came for the chance to play FCS football, but without the need to play more than 12 games.

I thought it was $50 million. What happened to that?

In 2023, Texas A&M WR transfer, Ernest Campbell, ran a 10.22 second 100 meter dash which is the 6th fastest 100 meter time in Texas high school history.

This transfer and graphic is a little more impressive because it doesn't have a school like MTSU between us and Texas A&M, and this kid has no arrest record!

Might get pulled over for running that fast.

Seems like A&M didn't play him at all, did I read that right... 1 special teams snap in 2024?

You can still post x posts - using the old 'Twitter' link, you just have to change the embed code, it's a little tricky, but you can get it to post. Instead of using the actual 'x' page address, replace it with twitter, it'll work.

Marion adds another former 4 star high school recruit who had offers from many of the top P4 schools in the country. LB/DE Dylan Gooden, who is the son of former MLB pitcher, Dwight Gooden, has transferred to Sac from Maryland. ESPN ranked Gooden as the #29 DE in the nation when he originally committed to Maryland.

Hopefully his sports career will be drug-free, unlike his old man's.

Played in two games, registered one tackle.

Yes, suspected torn pectoral, another potential boom or bust signing for what is shaping up to be just an absurdly interesting roster...

It would be more interesting if they were still FCS playoff eligible, which I suppose they will be if they get turned down by the FBS Committee for their waiver to move up without a conference invite.

Those stars mean considerably less once the player has spent a year at college. The stars are the new, still in the original package collectible value.

Isn’t the Pac12 still short one school for next years football season? They currently have 7 football schools, correct? And I thought they needed 8 to be considered a conference?
  • ucdtim17

Yes they are still looking for an 8th school. I think general consensus is Sac is not a contender.

my impression was they need 8 for the 2025 season…..4 months from now

They need 8 “full” members by the 2026 season. But most FBS schools are already in a conference and their current conference require a 1 year notice for them to leave. So like the current 5 MW schools will have to submit their exits soon. If they wait till after 6/1 their exit fees increases. This is what we did with Big West, we submitted our exit and will play the final year in Big West for our non football sports this coming year/season and then join mountain west in 2026.

They're gonna need a bigger locker room.

I loved the Aggies' offseason, but man the craziest story of the off-season is easily what's going on in Sacramento.

Looks likeca Deon Sanders replay, but what happens to their education going to two-three schools, and how many survive this year, or move again?
  • Riveraggie

Another issue is what happens to a teams credibility with HS coaches and players when 40+ players leave because they’re being replaced. Those olayers may also lose progress to their educational objectives due to disruption. Sac in prior years made a big deal that they recruited locally, now they risk burning that relationship.

With the portal it will be the new normal. Not a good normal, but it will not scare away players as their egos are strong and most believe that they will be a very good starter at any program that at any point had interest in them.
  • SochorField

I think a program that commits to their recruits (HS and portal) will do fine.

When HC starts advising kids to transfer because they are being replaced with someone better, the program loses credibility, and fast.

I understand coaching change years are different, and portal activity will be high..... but Marion needs to be careful. I feel like he's not (because Sac is a pitstop).

Time will tell if Marion builds a reputation. The callousness in his handling of their budding star QB Conklin (who had recently reaffirmed his good faith commitment to Sac), is not a good sign, IMO

We can talk all this Sac Smack but the caliber of player they are getting is unbelievable. Talent on paper feels way ahead of what we have. Multiple 4 and 5 star recruits from top FBS programs. Have we ever had even one 4+ star player in our history?
  • Riveraggie
    278

The issue isn’t whether they have talent, the issue is what do the games mean?
If they get their FBS waiver then their games this year are basically exhibitions. Their schedule is not that tough, they’ll play 1 FBS team that was bad last year,South Dakota State is decimated by transfers and the coaching staff moving to Washington State. Sac plays a few games against teams near the bottom of FCS, and even the better teams in the Big Sky are somewhat depleted by transfers, so they aren’t proving they are FBS ready, and there is good reason to skeptical that they can recruit at this level on an ongoing basis, or even retain the coach.

If they get denied in their FBS move they might win a FCS national championship, which would be dramatic story, but if this is a transition year it’s ho hum.

If the waiver is denied, are they above the scholarship limit for FCS and Big Sky?
