I only learned on this site that UC Davis will lower its admission standards for a certain number of athletes. I'm interested in the details of such exceptions. Can someone send me a link to where this is explained? Will joining the MWC change this?

The campus term is admission by exception (ABE). My understanding is that it is rarely used, and sometimes it's for a technicality - one class shy, one class doesn't transfer.

I believe the ICA goal is to match the same ABE use of the general campus for undergraduates. We aren't admitting student athletes w 2.3 GPAs. These are excellent students.

interesting to see Purdue on the list - they currently have zero transfers on their roster from what I read.

This is an interesting post from the Big West Boards:

It is interesting that of the roughly 2,000 D1 players who entered the portal last season, about 200 of them (about 10%) never landed at another school (I'm guessing most probably never got an offer, or never got one from a school they preferred to attend or a team they wanted to play for). The consequence for declaring to enter the portal means you are at least temporarily relinquishing a scholarship at your former school. The school you transfer to does not need to guarantee you a scholarship, nor, if you wind up returning to the school you had intended to transfer from, that school does not have to reinstate your former scholarship, although they may do that....it is a risk for the player to enter the portal...maybe not for the best players, who will 'land on their feet,' but certainly for lesser players who might not get a better offer than they currently have at their present school.

P.S. The ABE rate is very low, possibly 2% of overall admits.

I'd imagine that a portion of those 2000 are players that may have been 'encouraged' by their coaches to seek another school.

Even a lot of the guys that find a home have been pushed out. The landscape is crazy.

Charles Barkley believes that NIL is ruining college sports and I agree:

Barkley argued that when big-named schools with the most NIL money reel in the bulk of top prospects, parity In college sports will crumble.
"It's a travesty and a disgrace. I'm so mad now how we can mess up something that's so beautiful," Barkley said.

He added, "In the next three to five years, we're going to have 25 schools that's going to dominate the sports because they can afford players, and these schools who can't afford or won't pay players are going to be irrelevant."

I didn’t realize he had another year. He went through senior night; maybe a return like Rocek?

I like to see him here for another year as a grad student. He improved tremendously this year and was a solid contributor. I think he'd be a good team leader given his experience and growth here.

agree. Caleb Fuller left as a grad transfer a couple years back - another one that would have been nice to have for a last year. Caleb, interestingly, was at senior night this year with Leo’s family .

I would think Pablo could get into grad school - he was one of our district all-academic picks. Problem is that business management is one of few (only?) that has a masters program. That’s where Rocek ended up.

I guess Tamba is taking advantage of that ‘JC doesn’t count’ ruling? He’s played 3 years of D1 basketball sandwiched around a year at JC.

If you get a kid who started in 20-21 (COVID), took a redshirt, injured, two years at JC….. he could be 27 or so in his ‘senior’ year!

Does anyone have a current roster summary of who is left? VerbalCommits is a little fuzzy to follow. It seems we have 2 juniors, 1 Soph and Frosh, and 2 HS commits. So 6 players currently? (4 plus 2 commits.) Is that correct?

He did not play last season so he'll be transferring as a redshirt freshman.

Andrej Stojaković has entered the portal from Cal. He's 6'7 and averaged 17.9 ppg last season. He has entered with a "Do Not Contact Tag" which means this:

A "do not contact" tag in the NCAA transfer portal means a player entering the portal is not open to random calls or messages from coaches. It essentially allows the player (or their representatives) to control who they communicate with, giving them more control over the recruitment process. This tag often, but not always, indicates the player has a preferred destination in mind or is managing their recruitment through an agent.

It sure would be great if he contacted the Aggies!
