Don't get me started on the lack of cool football apparel (and any other sports apparel) in campus stores.

Casual visitors would barely notice we have a D1 athletics program.
And I didn't find anywhere to buy apparel at the game last week either (unless I missed it)

Does anyone know who is in charge of purchasing the fan apparel at the bookstore? If we know, maybe we could start a pressure campaign

I am all for this. We honestly need to address this with the Chancellor. That’s the only way things can change rapidly.

My wife went to USF, so she's going to wear my dad's Bob St. Clair HOF jersey to represent USF football and really confuse a lot of people.

I've emailed everyone imaginable in the past (over about 18 years). I never get any responses. I gave up.

Honestly, these people (whoever fills the campus stores) don't care about sports. And this shows by the track record.

They could sell a ton of this stuff. Students/fans love team apparel...anything with an Adidas logo that resembles what the teams where. This is very simple.
Just with parents/family of players, they would sell a lot of stuff.

I read someone on this board over the past couple of years someone said they were told something like "the team doesn't want the general public wearing their stuff"....(???)

I would guess the guy wearing the shirt was given it by someone in the staff.


I don’t know the deal with the bookstore. I think there’s some beauractic reason they don’t sell the adidas gear.

Cal Poly and Sac State don't seem to have a problem selling Adidas gear....

As I understand from someone who used to work there, the bookstore doesn’t really “design” apparel, there are various purveyors with catalogs of stock designs that sub whatever university. MV Sport is a big one they use. Same basic sweatshirt branded to dozens of universities, so they may not have great incentive to invent new styles. At one time, not sure if they still do, they could do some shirt printing in house but only for “event” type shirts like Picnic Day that didn’t interfere with license deals. Many universities have contracted operation of their bookstores out to BN or Follett (as Poly has). Some of the styles are online-only, so I wonder if Follett’s national economy of scale gets them more variety from the purveyors. UCD mostly operates the bookstore themselves, though I think Follett is involved in the textbook business. I think historically different campus entities made some of their own interesting shirts but in the 2010s everything related to cash handling was consolidated under the “UCD Stores” umbrella, it’s even where you pay for ARC memberships and replacement ID cards now. While the new bookstore is beautiful, my opinion is the merchandise became kind of bland.

They sent out a promotional email last week showing a jacket i really liked. The swag store at the stadium didn’t have it. I stopped by the bookstore, nada. Then went into the store downtown. They didn’t have it either but said it should be available online. Nowhere to be found. Why pick a product for a promotional email that can’t be purchased?

Sales would be convenient on game-day, that's the allure. If it's open 7 days a week, or just weekdays for students and gameday weekend days, the flow of people might make it worthwhile...but you're right, the convenience for the student body on campus and downtown is the daily ticket for sales...honestly though we just need better gear available at all the spots.

i think there might be a logistics issue having a door from the outside and a door into the stadium. not that we'd have a HUGE volume of fans that would make it hard to keep an eye on.

i haven't been in the campus bookstore in awhile. the inventory in the downtown store is pretty weak. a wall of CA shirts with specific sports under it. A bunch of UCD dad/mom/grandpa. And an assortment of shirts in all colors BUT blue.

The Adidas stuff that the staff/players were is SO much nicer.

I hate the double font logo. I wish we could stop using it.

Double-font logo is a "university" thing. The Ca is an "athletics" thing.
I personally think the double-font should go away as well and the university should use the athletics font because its more modern and recognizable.

The university / athletics color schemes are different, fonts, logos, everything.......The school is so disjointed in terms of branding / logos. It gets frustrating.

I like the athletic logos, I don’t like the “university” logos.

The classic logos are phenomenal in my opinion.

They should definitely not sell shirts like this one in the on-campus / off-campus bookstores and sell a ton of them.

I’m not sure who is keeping stuff like this off the shelves (because it seems like a policy decision), but it’s frustrating.
