Well we were right there for about 12 minutes then Les got a T and the wheels came off the cart. I thought that was a really quick T on Coach Les. Did you notice that Bill Self did the went after the refs at the end of the half but didn't get a T?
We are making some terrible defensive lapses though. Those uncontested layups are Kansas is getting over and over again should not be happening against anybody. Those are mental errors by the Ags on D.
Proud of the guys, great season. We lose a lot of guys so we're going to have to put in a lot of work to get back to the level that we played this year.
We were outmatched by a taller, more athletic, five star recruit team that's well coached and has future NBAers. Great first step for our program. Will hopefully help recruiting. Proud of this team. A lot of positives and things to build on. Moneke will be back next yr. He's a great centerpiece. Though we're losing 5 seniors, Schneider, Goode, Henn, Hennings back next yr. AJ John and Printup should come off red shirts. Will miss Lemar, JT, Graham, White, and Georgi. Great yr. Go Ags!
Ya good point! On a side note, we should start putting at least a couple high major teams on the schedule. Even if they're losses, it's good to measure up. Plus it can help our rpi- win or lose.
Absolutely agree, we need to start playing up and toughen up our SOS. The really hard part of scheduling for the Aggies is that it's practically impossible to get good teams to come and play in Davis. Our OOC home schedule was awful this year: Holy Names, William Jessop and Utah Valley.
Yeah, it got away from us but, wow, Kansas is loaded. They were impressive and well rested going into the game. When you look at what we had to do in playing 5 tough games in 9 days with all the travel, I surprised we had anything left at all against a team that could hang with some of the bottom NBA teams. That's about as brutal as it gets.
Excerpt: “I don’t want tonight and the outcome and the score to take away from what this group did,” Aggies coach Jim Les told the assembled media afterward. “They put UC Davis basketball and UC Davis on the map — nationally, internationally.
“They were just a special group.”
“We just had as an emotional locker room as I’ve ever been a part of,” said the sixth-year UCD coach. “And just we as a staff appreciating all this group gave to us all year and all the things they overcame and how they bonded together and allowed us to push them.
“They accomplished some wonderful feats that I don’t want this game to take away.”
Agree, but they aren't going to just show up because we are UCD. It has to be a plus for them RPI-wise where if they lose it won't blow up their season. Not like that right now.
BlueGoldAg you always make such good points. Kansas was very well rested to the point of being a little rusty at the start. A friend of mine noted that even in Dayton, the guys looked kind of worn, then traveling to Tulsa and everything. This team has a lot of heart, class and toughness. They'll go down in Aggie history along with the '98 team as one of the most memorable to put on the blue and gold of UC Davis. We're all proud of them. Fans out here in Hawaii were rooting for them to represent the Big West well and I think they did that.
"Regardless of tonight, this is the best season I've ever been a part of and I'm so proud to be an Aggie. Hope we made y'all proud!"
Also this shows you what a class act Chima is: In the tunnel outside the locker room, UC Davis' Chima Moneke pulled Bill Self aside: "Go win it all coach."
