Took the opportunity to look up some quick stats about our upcoming opponent. They finished with an overall record of 25-8, 13-3 in conference. They averaged 75.1 points per game while only allowing 63.4. They shot 45.7% from the field and 34% from outside the arc. Their scoring leaders are G Patrick Cole and G Dajaun Graf. It doesn't appear that they have overwhelming size like a UCI. Should be a fun and competitive game.
Congrats on going dancing. Play in games are good for Davis and the conference. Good chance for a win and each win brings money to the conference. A win is also great for the fans and players.
Great game for a W. Dayton fans are really nice and are knowledgable about the game. I sat in the middle of Dayton fans at the Wooden Classic and they were a lot of fun.
I know we're not playing Dayton, but I can guarantee you that most of the fans will be local residents.
I'm really pleased with this draw. I think this is a game that we have a legitimate chance to win. If we can win this one then we get #1 Kansas. Our chances against the Jayhawks are between slim and none but, you know what, we're still waiting for a #16 to beat a #1 and, like the USA vs Russia Miracle on Ice victory in 1980, in sports anything is possible. If we make it to the Kansas game then our team has nothing to lose. So I hope the Aggies just play loose, play their hearts out and take home a lifetime of memories.
I'm so proud of the team that anything else is just icing on the cake!
Not showing any love for the Big West. UCI goes into the NIT as an 8 seed and has to travel to Illinois. Cal State-Bakersfield, also an 8 seed and an auto bid, only has to travel to Berkeley.
The committee also had to make sure USC was playing on Wednesday in Dayton, instead of Tuesday, since the Trojans were coming from Los Angeles. The same was true for No. 16 UC Davis.
The committee ranks every single team from 1-68, in addition to the regional distributions. The last 4 teams get play-in games for 16-seeds; we were #65, 4th from worst, so we're the home team at our game.
The 11-seed play-in games represent the last four at-large teams.
Moton admitted he didn’t know much about UC Davis, as the Aggies play on the West Coast.
“They probably don’t know a bunch about us as well,” Moton said. “We’ll pull an all-nighter and study and put a game plan together for a really good basketball team.”
By comparison, the Eagles’ best win came against Northern Kentucky, a No. 14 seed in the NCAA tournament. But their worst loss, which happened during the last regular season game, came against N.C. A&T, which was ranked the worst team in the country and had no wins against Division I opponents all season.
Three interesting facts from the NC Central roster:
1) They have no freshman on their roster,
2) No one on their roster enrolled there straight from high school, and
3) They have no one listed taller than 6'8".
I just want to say that I love this website. My Aggie fans post a lot of great information, opinions and insights that I would have a lot of trouble getting any other way. I did notice that UNC-Central has posted some good non-conference ones. In addition to beating Northern Kentucky as eastbayaggie noted, they beat Missouri and lost to Ohio State by only 6, but that information is readily accessible on the web. Anyway: thanks you guys!
- good catch. I had assumed it was a post-HS prep school, and I stand corrected. Still unusual to have just one guy in the program who didn't transfer in.
I must admit the Aggie hoop teams far exceeded my expectations and predication. I know our Mens' RPI is one of the worst in the tourney, but we won when we had to, and had a great conference season. The women had a great regular season, and feel a few possessions short of the tourney. This is a start. Hopefully, baseball and football can follow the lead.
I know this is just the old D2 mentality in me, but I still get psyched when I see the Aggie logo on ESPN.com surrounded by the top bball schools in the country.
Hmm... apparently ESPN's database has us listed as "California-Davis", because that's the only way UCD and UCLA could be in between Butler and Cincinnati on their list.
