In women's Mid-Major Top 25 poll news, UCD is still "ORV"--up to 40 votes from 7 last week. UCI just fell out of the top 25 and received 53 votes. St. Mary's is ranked 22nd.
NCAA RPI-wise: UCD is at 91, Irvine at 171, and St. Mary's at 45. Loyola Marymount is a few spots away from Davis. Riverside is actually a few spots ahead of Irvine...interesting.
Not that the team needs any extra motivation, but continuing to be behind 2nd place UCI in the mid-major poll should ensure that the Ags play with a chip on their collective shoulders.
I don’t know how these polls are really done, but the fact that we beat both UCI and St Marys and they are higher ranked just makes the fairness of these polls very suspect. But like my buddies above say, it sure gives Jen some good stuff to talk about in practice and the huddle. Big CHIP coming at you!
The problem with the bracketology in the women's bracket is that I think there is bias towards regional pairings in the first round than their true seed.
I'm still somewhat bitter the year when UC Davis was paired with Stanford for a #1 vs. #16 match up when UC Davis was clearly better than a #16 seed that year.
Yeah, there have been some rumblings about that around the Internet; a few folks noting that the women's field is getting deep enough that the NCAA needs to start paying more attention to the seeding outside the top 8-10 teams or so.
