International hoops: To no one’s surprise, former Aggie forward Pele Gianotti has found a professional basketball home — and her team is tearing it up in what is called the German DBBL.
Playing for the Bascats USC in Heidelberg, the Myrtle Creek, Ore., native Gianotti is averaging 14.5 points per game as her squad is off to a 5-0 start. Her next game is Jan. 12 against Speyer Schifferstadt. We journalists liked it better when the opponent was CSUN.
Also on a foreign roster is former UCD standout Josh Fox (Ballarat of the South East Australia). The Fiji-born Fox just re-signed with the Miners after averaging 14.5 points and 12 rebounds last season.
“I am looking to win a championship,” the popular ex-Aggie told the Australian Times News Group. “I felt like last year we let it get away … a lot of unfortunate things happened towards the end of the season and we did not live up to what we could have done.”
Fox says he wants to win the title “for the Ballarat community.”
Meanwhile, Brynton Lemar continues his European journey. After playing for Nancy and Caen in France, the 2017 Big West Tournament MVP is with the Soproni Kosárlabda Club (Soproni KC) of Sopron, Hungary.
Also, Denain SC (Voltaire) inked former Aggie Chima Moneke five games ago. Playing small forward for the French club, Moneke already has broken into the starting lineup and is pulling down 6.6 rebounds while averaging nine points a game.
