Weber offense is so bad, they have no business being in this game.
UCD special teams making things interesting.
Davis offense did some good things in the first half. Hastings completing his short passes efficiently.
Aggies outgained the Wildcats 208-94, but the special teams just did their absolute best to keep them in this one.
We're lucky to be playing against a freshman quarterbacking his first collegiate game as he went 4/12 for 45 and a TD (thanks again to the special teams)
How poor is this? Weber not only just gained a whole lot of momentum, but Munoz probably just got a huge injection of confidence--frankly that he badly needed. On the other hand, the Ages dodged a few bullets too. Still, we should be ahead by 21. As it is UCD: 14, UCD not-so-special teams: 10.
It's situations like this where I wish we were a higher profile football program and there was some actual media and fan pressure on Hawk to express what exactly is going to be done to fix things like our special teams performance. Win or lose we'll get the same old press conference come Monday or Tuesday where they'll toss a couple softball questions out for the players to answer and that'll be about it.
As CA Forever stated above, Thompkins has to make the 3rd down play. He ran his route into the boundry (sideline). If he runs a better route, Davis gets the 1st down and at least 4 more downs of clock management.
Assistant Coach Evan Hicks coaches safeties (and special teams) and has a background as a DB at Sacramento JC. No note of any background coaching special teams.
Typical of our defense this year to give up a big play at the most inopportune time. It feels like the opposing coaches have a few plays they know will work, and sure enough they do.
I'm starting to feel like this team just finds ways to shoot themselves in the foot with poor special teams play, inability to hold on 3rd and long downs and multiple TO's game after game.
I think Tompkins is still guarding his shoulder. On that last run he chose to go out of bounds instead of turning it up field. He’s also being worked too much. He’s going to get hurt again with that many carries.
That observation is spot on. He's actually gone down - relatively easy - on multiple runs. Under the current circumstances, I can't say as I blame him!
