  • Dunning Article on the Big West Tournament This Year
i'm sure it al boils down to money. Henderson probably ponied up some bucks to host, whereas we probably have to pay a significant amount to get the Honda center for a week. ESPN probably likes it because they have multiple conference tourneys in one location. maybe the casinos give away tickets to fill the stands to compensate for the lack of fans from the teams.
  • Former LBSU Player Playing In Ukraine and Now Hoping to Get Out
I posted elsewhere that Angiwe’s sister, Kristine, was over there playing basketball. She’s playing for a team in Turkey who was to compete in the Euro championships in Ukraine. They moved it out of harm’s way but still scary to be so near.

I’m not sure why Vegas is much different than Anaheim for us. At least it’s a neutral site.

I think the fact that they jacked up the price of a tournament pass from $70 to $270 is a bigger slap to the fans. Conversation yesterday sounded like we’ve not sold our usual number of tickets. Not sure if that’s because we’d get SOCal alum who attended or if some of our more loyal (i.e. older) donors don’t want to risk travel to Vegas

I couldn’t agree with you more! Borra gets one at least once a game when he might move his hip an inch or two on a screen above the circle. Not only tacky-tack but has almost no bearing on the play. The one on CSUN was bad. Not even sure there was contact

always good to hang out with you and your better half!

1500 fans yesterday which might be our highest. I think the dead crowd was mostly in the second half when there seemed to be no suspense and the offense was clunky. In the first half they shoot 34%, with 0-8 from the arc (at least 2 air balls….they are bad), while we were 52% with 4-8 from the arc (including first shots by Angiwe and Pepper). Second half? They were even worse at 29% although they were 4-12 from the arc. We dropped to 31%, 1-8 from the arc. A couple threes may have perked up the crowd. Lots of fouls on them slowed the pace- our best burst was Pepper’s 4 FTs on 2 Ts!

All in all, a good time at the Arc

UCSB beat Riverside in 2OT; almost impossible to pass them for 6 spot

Weird game. Played well on both ends in the first half, subpar offense (especially shooting) in second half……and win by 20. Northridge is bad and they looked like they’ve maybe given up. Tough situation for them. Anigwe looked like the Anigwe of TD early season which is good. Hope fuller is back soon - our interior defense and rebounding really suffer without him. I think Fuller wore down tonight trying to play post defense.

Pretty good crowd, but a little flat.

Decent crowd, good student turnout. Solid first half. I expect us to play a lot of zone and DARE them to shoot from the outside. Smart with the ball, good shot selection and we win easy

us too. I think this is my 10th home game (thankfully missed AofA and one no fan game) and I made the game at UOP.

Looks like we won a rare Friday night game v CSUN last night

I was just reading an article in the Mercury that mentioned that Christian Anigwe’s sister Kristine is currently playing basketball for a team in Turkey that was to compete in the Eurocup in Ukraine. He might be feeling this much more than most.

thank goodness for the distraction of Aggie basketball!

The games v Poly really hurt us. Shocked we lost the first one (layoff and lack of useful practices had to hurt) and not playing the home game are two games that could have put us in a great spot for 6

Crowd seemed a bit sluggish until the end. Darius does a great job of trying to pump it up, but there seemed to be a flatness in the building. I liked the introduction with the lights down and two spotlights. Band is always a welcome sign although they even seemed a little less enthusiastic than normal.

Whole day up there seemed sluggish. Got up there at 4:30 and downtown seemed really deserted. Did try Raising Cane’s - solid. Need to get Bob Dunning to lead an effort to steam clean downtown. Looking a little worn

I watched the replay of the CSUB game and it looked like he might have got knocked out by the blow. Announcers thought so also. Just speculation but the trainer was helping him to the locker room after guiding him by the arm.

Les got pretty fired up a couple times last night. On a play they called a foul on Murphy ( arm hit their guy in the face), officials huddled before reviewing - he was chasing after them throughout to a point I thought a T was coming. He’s mellowed greatly - his son more than makes up for it!

I thought no call on Pepper was big for two reasons. First, it would have been a turnover instead of points for them. Secondly, it took Pepper’s mind out of the game for the next couple possession (he was still pleading his case when they were shooting FTs the next time down the court).

Mitchell and size killed us. Anigwe had 2 straight possessions with the ball low and position, but hesitated and pump faked until Sow was in a spot to block it. Missing Fuller hurt here. He’s a good interior defender, especially off the game, and can post up. Sow had 4 fouls WITHOUT an interior presence; maybe Caleb helps to get another. Hope he can play Saturday, but seems unlikely
