  • OH MY LORD
I'm hoping that the Power 4 for FOOTBALL evolves into some type of super conference, and then let the other sports go back to the old regional alignments. At some point, the San Jose's of the world are going to be much closer to FCS schools than the Power 4.

will there will stands on both sides? must be if they are shooting for 22000.

what i can't figure is what's the expected life span of this? sounds like a temporary set-up -> i can't imagine the FBS will see this as a viable long term stadium. so, 170M and then a whole bunch more 5 years from now for a real stadium?

With revenue sharing starting next year, the power conferences will look even more attractive. Not sure how the teams will spread their wealth, but a $15M type payroll should have plenty of cash trickling down to the backups!

it seems like the Sagarin algorithm don't give us much respect, probably due to opponents records. San Diego + Sac > SUU + Weber + Utah Tech?

The Barber twins were pretty special. Also the Pouncey twins.

I had to google the second one

I haven't heard anything, but I haven't really asked anyone who might know!

There are a number of new faces out there, not the least at QB, WR and RB. Remember last year, we struggled with Texas A&M-Commerce (needed a late pick-6 to seal it), struggled with Southern Utah (needed a late int to seal it), and nearly lost to a weak Portland State game early on. We show flashes of true explosiveness, but haven't had that consistency to march 80 yards. I think the wind played a real big part in the slow start saturday -> allowed them to crowd the box and took away the mid range pass. Maybe this is the week where we put together a full 48 minutes of winning offensive football (and good downfield tackling!).

and there were some REALLY lopsided losses in that streak. They certainly didn't shy from the challenge last saturday!

Wulff was here for a short time as a 'volunteer assistant' after that crew got dismissed at Sac State and I heard nothing but raves about him from a couple of our coaches (Sam Young, the Obi Wan of football coaching, told me he learned a ton from Wulff during that season!). Extremely knowledge, and very likable guy. I'm not surprised that they are improving - he didn't inherent a great situation, but he seems to be bringing in quality players.

it seems like the Hornet faithful went from worrying that Marion would leave, to worrying that he will have to stay!

As one of the 10000 whooping it up when I saw Rex in the wildcat, I’m not gonna second guess it now.

Seriously, how many times have you seen an injury from a power run like that? Hopefully it’s not as serious as we fear. Hopefully his brother’s trip to the tent isn’t serious

Holy crap….we’re somewhere in the 16.5 to 17.5 point favorite range. Plough seems quietly confident in discussing the game but I’m really shocked at that spread.

We were big favorite at UTU….so, I guess that’s why they make them play the games!

There are no urinals but there’s toilets. Was we hoping for Candlestick Park style trough?

We could have had them dress at the Pavillion - that’s about the distance visitors walk at SUU. I think last year, the team stayed on the field rather than hoof it back.

BTW, they averaged about 4000 a game last season so they might be a source of some of his butt hurt.

yeah, he was a bit of a grump about that. He really bristled when the hist t as liked about the facility and that it was something they could shoot for.
  • Weber State @ UC Davis
I was there! That was a slugfest. Weber had a really good punt returner and our punting held him in check all night.

I think the 17k was high - probably had to estimate the number of freshmen coming into the building. But it was larger than any crowd I’ve seen. 14k might be more realistic.

The number I know are correct are 1 and 3…..SUU’s record which should be most important to the coach. Why the heck was he paying attention to the attendance announcement when the game was still in the balance?
  • Weber State @ UC Davis
I think the deep/medium passing will pick up. We had one drive Saturday where he missed 3 wide open passes in a row when we had really good field position; hit one of those and the drive continues and maybe we score again. Other than that sequence, i thought he was accurate and made good decisions. He hasn't hit the long ball, but on most of them the receiver has been well covered (maybe TOO well covered!).
  • Video: Farm vs Farm - UC Davis Beats Stanford in 2005
I didn’t get my tickets through Davis, so we were sitting in the opposite end zone - just above where the winning TD happened, surrounded by some angry, disappointed Stanford fans!

from the press conference and from my eyeball test, there was an emphasis on getting to the QB -> it seemed like we were blitzing more in the first half than i can remember use doing. that led to some pickups on 3rd downs that extended drives and kept the defense on the field a long time. i think that led to them getting worn down which led to poor tackling. SUU seemed to attack the edges, especially in the second half, and got big gain after big gain.

That being said, we held them to 7 non-garbage time points in the 2nd half.

maybe the offense improved with the change at QB?
