Bob Dunning makes his case for the Big West to have a post-season Baseball Tournament:

It’s about time for the Big West Conference to join the crowd and sponsor a conference tournament at the end of the baseball season.

The Big West already has a conference tournament in basketball, for both men and women, with the winners advancing to the NCAA tournament. The same should happen in baseball.

There was better news on forward Morgan Bertsch. She'll miss Friday's home game against the New York Liberty with an ankle sprain, but is expected back soon. The 6-foot-4 Bertsch, a WNBA rookie who has played professionally overseas, started the first three games.

"Morgan's maybe a week or two," Wade said. "I don't think it's going to go any further than that. She was on the bike and doing some stuff today."

  • New Rule Changes for Football
Not a rule change but the NCAA is looking at possibly increasing the number of teams that get seeded in the FCS Playoffs.

June 1 update: The FCS playoff committee met in mid-May to review/discuss findings from the NCAA’s research regarding changes to the bracket structure after NCAA staff has been looking into what the change in cost would be to seed more teams. After review, the playoff committee has recommended seeding the top 16 teams in the 24-team bracket moving forward. It still has a couple of approvals to go through this month, including the Football Oversight Committee. The hope is by the end of June there will be more concrete news/details.

This website has Morgan listed as not returning until mid-June. There are currently 5 Chicago Sky players out and two are listed as "out indefinitely."

  • Pepper returning for another season!
Great news! Eli is going to draw a lot of attention from our opponents. He'll get double teamed, trapped and bumped around a lot but he's shown that he can still contribute at a very high level even when teams are locking down on him. Focusing so heavily on stopping him will open things up for the other players on the floor too.
  • 2023 Season Preview
I don't know exactly what all these numbers mean either other than I think it shows that we have some very athletic athletes on the team.
  • 2023 Recruits?
Someone over on the Big West Boards Basketball Forum posted this comment regarding Robeson:

If he is 100% recovered from injury, he should be a impact transfer for Davis.

From what I can find, it looks like we offered Robeson out of high school. He chose Cal over Stanford, Cincinnati, Nebraska, University of Illinois-Chicago, Rice, Loyola Marymount, Santa Barbara, CSUN, Poly, San Diego, and Montana. So it appears that he's one of those "diamonds-in-the-rough" that Les loves to get and give them a chance to prove themselves.

I watched the game and Morgan played well. She was a starter again. She had one of her beautiful, patented spin moves for a bucket. Nobody could stop those spin moves when she was an Aggie and it looks like is still works as a pro.

This game is versus Phoenix with the return of Brittney Griner to her home court. What an experience this will be for Morgan!

Thanks for the heads-up, Mike, I'll try to watch some of that game or record it to watch later.

She started the game. Pretty fair stat line: 3-7 from the field, 6 rebounds, 2 assists, 3 steals, 2 blocks and 4 fouls. The only negative stat was a -10 +/- (points differential while the player is on the floor) which is a rather nebulous stat but the pros use it. It is considered a measure of how the player impacts the team when they are in the game. Regardless, the Sky HC seems to think Morgan is ready for the WNBA game.
  • 2024 Football Recruiting
I saw those FBS offers that 247 Sports shows that he has from Memphis, Arizona, Florida Atlantic, Middle Tennessee State, and San Jose State but those offers were made in 2021 and 2022 and he doesn't show any of those on his twitter page. So I wondered if those offers are still active or not? He's only showing the current 2023 offers now.
