  • Pac-12 set to add Boise, 3 other MW schools
AS PAC-12 GROWS AND MOUNTAIN WEST SHRINKS, ARE AGGIES IN THE MIX? ... On Monday morning, the six-team Pac-12 reached across the country and offered spots to AAC members Memphis, Tulane and South Florida, but all three turned down the overture and elected to stay put.

This led to a quick Pac-12 offer to Utah State Monday afternoon that was just as quickly accepted. So yes, the Aggies are now in the Pac-12, but not the same Aggies that Davis folks know and love.

The Pac-12 (the league retained that title even when it was down to just Oregon State and Washington State) has already raided Mountain West schools San Diego State, Fresno State, Boise State and Colorado State, leaving both leagues with seven schools, one short of the NCAA minimum for recognition as a conference.

UNLV, which earlier on Monday committed to stay in the Mountain West, withdrew that commitment when Utah State announced it was leaving and is now reconsidering a Pac-12 offer.

If UNLV leaves, the Mountain West will need to quickly add at least two teams, which is where rumors about UC Davis continue to swirl, along with other top-enders in the Big Sky and Missouri Valley. Even if UNLV stays, the MWC may consider UCD and perhaps the Montana or Dakota schools. Sacramento State would also like to be in the conversation.

I think the fan base would jump up big if we were to bring in bigger name programs.
  • 2024 Week 4: Utah Tech (0-3) @ UC Davis (2-1)
The stadium was a full as I've ever seen it but the crowd thinned out significantly beginning late in the third quarter. I'd say 40% or more were gone the mid 4th quarter. It was a long game and it was getting late. We need the 7 pm starts in September though and the east side doesn't get fried alive. Heck, the forecast is for another triple digit or two next week.

They scanned us but sometimes I'm not sure it registers for whatever reason and they just "you guys are good."
  • 2024 Week 5: Idaho (3-1) @ UC Davis (3-1)
It's hard to disagree with what you are saying. However, I think Perez is doing a nice job and having him in there gives Larison a blow.

I wonder if he means we had 6 starters out? I counted about 30 players wearing their jerseys who were not suited up for the game when the team came back onto the field for the second half. I couldn't tell who they were since we don't have names on the jerseys anymore. We're obviously pretty beat up. I hope we get some of them back for the Idaho game.
  • 2024 Week 4: Utah Tech (0-3) @ UC Davis (2-1)
Official attendance: 14,832. I hope they come back for the Idaho game. We're gonna need a loud fan base to help the Ags play with their hair on fire in this one.

We got into the red zone 9 times but could only manage 3 TD's.

The game was played in San Diego in front of a crowd of 3802. That's an impressive crowd size for the Aztecs.

That one hurts It's not the way you want to start conference play.

I just looked at the box score and it looks like it was one of those games where we lost even though, statistically, we out played them: 16 shots and 8 on goal to their 11 and 5, more corners 3-1 and fewer fouls 19-12 but one of the fouls resulted in a penalty kick goal that was the difference in the game. The Hawai'i keeper also had 7 saves. Soccer, more than most sports, is the kind of game where a team can dominate but still lose.

I think it goes to show what bringing in schools like UCLA and others in any sport will increase attendance dramatically. I know that it's difficult to get the bigger name programs to come here to play though. Heck, I remember Jim Les saying that trying to get schools like St Mary's and USF on the schedule is difficult even if it's a road game.

The following article is about a meeting that took place earlier this summer in Florida that included the NCAA President and the commissioners of the SEC, ACC, Big 10 and the Big 12. The group discussed a proposal that separates the 4 Power Conferences away from the other 28 conferences.

While many details remain unclear, the new governance structure clearly draws a dividing line between the revenue-generating football giants competing in a mostly commercialized, professional enterprise and the more basketball-centric institutions participating in a more amateur landscape.

The Aggies pulled a major upset this evening by beating UCLA 3-1 (26-24, 15-25, 25-21 and 25-22) in front a a big, boisterous crowd at the University Credit Union Center. Overall the Aggies now stand at
5-4 after completing their very tough non-conference schedule that included #6 Purdue, Indiana, Kansas State, Washington State, Washington, UMBC and UCLA.

The Ags will now begin conference play at on Thursday vs Long Beach and Saturday vs UC San Diego. Both games are at 6 pm at the University Credit Union Center.
