  • Montana, Montana State opt out of spring FCS championship season
The news on Arceneaux hiring said “ Michael Cody, who returns to the offensive line after previously being announced as the receivers coach.” So he is thee offensive line coach, and he worked with the OL in the Fall.

Arceneaux seems to fill a need. We’ve got a bunch of young wide receivers and it will help that he played the position with some success.
I wonder why he left Southern Utah? He was special teams coordinator and coached tight ends and “inside receivers”.

Does limiting regional viewers to 120 miles make any sense at all in a global pandemic that’s been widespread everywhere for 12 months?!

I assume we’ll be able to view live stream via Pluto again this year, right?
It would be great if they would use the local team announcers on the audio for home games. Just simulcast the radio play by play. Sometimes I like the out of town announcers but it’s a rare thing.

I’m sure that’s right, taller is more desirable. But for Davis’ sake, since we play Cal Poly twice, I hope they have bigger weaknesses than just 6’4” tackles.

Just glancing at the Cal Poly roster, they seem to have comparable height among the offensive linemen as we have; they do have a lot of young guys at the position, and need to replace three starters.
It’s an interesting question how tall offensive linemen need to be in a balanced offense. When we played Northern Iowa every offensive lineman on their roster was 6’4” or more. On the other hand Ford and Parks on our O line both have had some all conference recognition and are little people at 6’2 and 6’3”. Others high on the depth chart are just 6’3”.
  • Tim Plough new OC at Boise State
I haven’t noticed any mention of Cody Hawkins being QB coach in addition to offensive coordinator. ; although Plough handled both roles. That may be a lot for a new OC to handle given our inexperienced QBs.

Sports are unlike most UC activities in having clear deliverables understandable to the public at large. I think the difference in transparency minimizes the fairness and fiduciary concerns.

Why the reference to “intermediary as supervisor” who is that in this case?

Seems like many if not most football assistant jobs go to someone with prior ties to the head coach, not necessarily the “best candidate”. I think many if not most assistant jobs are filled without a “search”. The head coach has freedom to hire who he wants to work with knowing that his job is ultimately on the line. Whether his son is the offensive coordinator or someone else is, Dan Hawkins still bears responsibility for how the offense performs.

This isn’t like the Colorado situation where Dan is alleged to have called inappropriate plays to benefit his son’s stats and the team blew a big lead. I can’t think of an analogous situation in their current roles.

Considering how long a an assistant coach usually hangs around aren’t they all interim?
I know nothing about Cody Hawkins personality and personality
is a big factor. But playing and coaching under his dad isn’t a negative in my opinion. Cody was an outstanding high school player, a two time state most valuable player when mot playing for his dad.
No one understands his dads coaching philosophy better than Cody does. We’re unlikely to find someone who is more knowledgeable about the current offense than Cody since he.s been coaching in it. I hope he does great.

I don’t follow Weber closely but I notice that their QB Constantine is transferring to Rice. Still rank them #1 ?
  • Tim Plough new OC at Boise State
It must be confusing having two coaches named Cody and two coaches named Hawkins; someone needs a pseudonym.
  • Tim Plough new OC at Boise State
It would be nice if we had a accomplished receiver among the coaches. We have some great athletes who might need some individual skill coaching among the wide receivers.

I think if you look at it objectively Cody is well qualified for the job. Cody also performed well as a player, and was qualified to play at that level. The controversy stemmed largely from play calling that was perceived to be influenced by a desire for Cody to look good that ended up costing the team. True or not, I don’t think that dynamic is at play in this situation.

Seems like the easiest part is to put teams in the correct conference. Maybe since we have the oddity that we are in another conference for basketball that screws up their sort.

How lame it is that 24/7 class rankings still has UC Davis in the Great West.
    National Rank
    140
    Prev. Year: 135
    Next Year: N/A
    G-West Rank
    2
    Prev. Year: 1

I think it’s really impressive to see the list of schools in the committed elsewhere list on page 1 of this thread. They’re all FBS except two lost to Cal Poly, one Ivy, and one to Azusa Pacific. We don’t lose many recruits to peer programs, a trend which is now pretty established for the Hawkins era.

It may be that the uncertainty of playing this spring creates uncertainty for how many scholarships will be available. Maybe that will become clearer by the regular signing date.

What’s the status of playing the Big Sky season this spring? Heard nothing for a while. It’d be great to see some of the guys from last years class, and with the short season they could play in two thirds of the games and still red shirt

In 2018 we signed seven guys on the regular February signing day, including Jake Parks. So sometimes outstanding guys are available who might have been hoping for an offer that didn’t come through.
