It’s a battle of the passing games. Would be nice to have a couple long scoring drives to take time off the clock. Despite a lot of yards and 3 TDs I think the D is going to be the determining factor. Conklin is looking pretty comfortable.

Love the kicks through the end zone.

Seems like the Ags can just pass their way down the field.

Gbatu cannot do that stuff. Hurts team.

    Need more pressure on QB.

Sac State has been stacking the box.

    Good answer. Now defense.
  • Week 13: 70th Annual Causeway Classic
Aggies have had a lot of runs that don’t get much this year. Seems a bit like reverting to the first of the year on that last offensive series.

This game has me a bit nervous. Conklin looking comfortable and Sac nothing to lose. Need to answer.

absolutely bad spot. Not even close.

The field is artificial turf so if properly crowned water should drain off. Real turf would be another story, although the best turf fields have layered drainage strata.
  • Coach Plough, AFCA Region 5 coach of the year!
well deserved. I can’t help but think Hawkins stepping aside and Plough taking over occurred at just the right time. Louth has injected new energy into the program, and on top of being the head coach, I think his play calling has really stepped things up after last year and after getting acclimated after those first few games. I noticed that the MTN sports color guy attributed the play calling to the OC - which is nom but incorrect in this case. Troy Taylor has done the same at both Sac State and Stanford. I think Shanahan does the same for the 49ers? Not sure if Sochor or Biggs did. I am sure someone on this board knows.
  • 2024 Week 12: #2 Montana State (10-0) @ #4 UC Davis (9-1)
I noted that there was only 1 completion, and I believe only 1 target to an Aggie tight end. I suspect that may be due to strategy for run blocking and added pass protection.

I think a somewhat missed weapon is Josh Gale. Connecting with him over the linebackers has, in multiple times resulted in big gains and house calls over the years. He generally outruns defensive backs. The tight end group is deep, and between that and a lot of 12 personnel, I think there has been limited opportunities for him to make big plays. The Ags have a lot of receiving options so many ways to go.

I do think Chaz Davis really stepped up and was more aggressive in using his big body to block out defenders. My wife was amused when he was looking back to ward off defenders on that big run, and she also noticed his “splay-footed” running. Against EWU she had noted how Larison ran as track coaches would teach. I would assume running backs and receivers would all receive coaching on how to improve their running speed?
  • FCS Rankings
The good thing this year is that there are more seeded teams who get home field pretty much automatically if they come up with a base payment. In years past, Montana (besides seemingly at times getting in on name recognition only) would always get a home game no matter their record as they simply “bought” their way into a home game. So, as I understand, it is getting a bit “fairer” in that regard. But yah, having the Montana AD, then Sac AD is not an advantage to the Ags as someone being in the room as an advocate in any way.

Looks like rain on Saturday. Could suppress the scoring, depending on rain intensity. I remember a mud bowl game on Toomey - maybe 1979?

I think the Ags will be business and fired up especially on defense. Sort of a “you made the playoffs last year but we’re going this time and this is our statement”.

and I think Trent Tompkins had some space. Oh, well.

Great comeback, and never give up attitude. Got to say I am proud of them.

The Aggie D has played quite well - especially run D considering how they have been on the field so much. Only 333 yards offense for Montana State which is much lower (and maybe the least they have had) this season.
