  • Week 6: UC Davis @ Idaho State
No, I believe he's from Caldwell, west of Boise. Pocatello is in Eastern Idaho.
  • Week 6: UC Davis @ Idaho State
What I remember most about the Niner-Dolphins Super Bowl is the Niners' pass rush. I remember that team also had a good-to-great secondary, but it's the front four (weren't they playing a 4-3?) I remember. Of course I watched at the Graduate with the rugby team, so I'm not what you might call reliable when it comes to the details.
  • An Ode to the Kibbie Dome, (though not actually a dome....)
Lots of Idaho fans hate the Kibbie Dome but I like it. When our kids were small we usually had season tickets, and it was a comfortable place to be with small kids. When it's packed it is really loud. When I got here in '94 Idaho was a very good 1-AA team, and the games against BSU and Montana were ear-splitting. There's an indoor track, and in the winter it was a great place to run until I got more used to the cold.

I haven't been into the new basketball arena yet but look forward to seeing the insides. It is right between the College of Law, where I used to work, and the Dome, so I watched it come up for a while.
  • How do we beat EWU, JMU, NDSU
Right now TT needs just enough passing attempts to keep defenses guessing. I don't know how good he is as a passer, but if he only runs defenses will figure out how to stop him.
  • Week 5: Idaho @ UC Davis
I'll message you from here as it gets closer. I met an Aggie from OR who came up for an EWU game a few years ago, and I'll see if he's coming up next year. Where do you live in WA?

Go Ags! I wasn't rooting against the Vandals so much as rooting for my alma mater. I owe a lot to UI, and it's strange to watch these games. One of my Aggie Rugby buddies asked me who I was rooting for, and I told him 'Aggies Always.'

I also went to Sac State, and I never would have gotten into law school if I hadn't gone to Sac, gotten my grades up, and become a better student. But I never root for them!

I moved to Moscow in '94. Now I work in Lewiston and my job requires I live in Nez Perce County (I work in Lewiston) but I visit my family in Moscow on weekends. I was at our Farmers Market today too. If you went to SushiMan, my son took your order!
  • Week 5: Idaho @ UC Davis
And you can see why Vandal fans want him gone.
  • Week 5: Idaho @ UC Davis
This isn't over. We need a stop.
  • Week 5: Idaho @ UC Davis
Here's a great post from the Vandal site about the previous TD: 'Only other time I’ve seen 3 wr’s wide open 10 yds down in the end zone is in peewee fb'
  • Week 5: Idaho @ UC Davis
TT needs at least some time at QB. This game has been a great example of how fans always love the backup, until they get him. Hastings was great last game when he got in, but I think he needs time to develop. I certainly appreciate Rodrigues more now.
  • Week 5: Idaho @ UC Davis
When TT took off on that amazing run I was laughing my ass off, and my son, upstairs, was texting me to ask what was so funny. I told him he had to see it to appreciate it.
  • Week 5: Idaho @ UC Davis
    Thank you Venable.
  • Week 5: Idaho @ UC Davis
Rodrigues is better on the move than Hastings.
  • Week 5: Idaho @ UC Davis
Idaho has a lot of good athletes. Idaho fans hate the coach, but the athletes are good.
  • Week 5: Idaho @ UC Davis
Remember when LeGarrette Blount punched the BSU player after the Ducks lost to BSU? The Corner Club, Moscow's premier sports bar and alumni favorite spot made "Donkey Punch" t-shirts, which promptly sold out. I regret not buying one myself.
  • Week 5: Idaho @ UC Davis
'Jealous' is the wrong word. 'Resentful' is more accurate. Idaho has a North-South rivalry going, just like California, but the state capital and the economic weight of the state is in the south, often leaving North Idaho feeling like an afterthought. Posters on the Vandal site refer to Boise as the COU, Center of the Universe, and we think Boise people believe it really is the COU. Vandals believe our University of Idaho, the land grant and premier research institution of the state, has been de-emphasized in favor of BSU.

I don't think Hawkins hates the University of Idaho. I suspect he's indifferent. When I started at Idaho in '94 we were ascendant and had beaten BSU for years. Those days are long gone, and Hawkins was a huge part of Boise's rise. I think the Vandals were no more than a speed bump to him, so why would he hate Idaho?
  • Week 5: #9 Eastern Washington @ #11 UC Davis
regarding your question about why we don't see flagless reviews of other plays. I think targeting is safety-focused, so officials make an exception for tackles that can result in head injuries to both players. I doubt they're going to call it on line play, the rule is written for tackles.

As a Steeler fan I watched Ryan Shazier repeatedly lead with the crown of his helmet when he tackled opponents. I cringed every time, including the last time he did it. I didn't get a good look at the call against us, saw it on my phone and didn't want to have to yell at the screen, so I haven't watched it again. Generally I can't complain about rules to take this out of the game. It's good for the ball-carrier and the tackler.
