Aggies sign 6’ 5” SG, Nils Cooper. He played one year at Pepperdine. Also son of LA Laker great, Michael Cooper.

Same here. I take a big gasp, cross my fingers, and hope for good news about TY

I think that video is current-ish. I believe Pepper and Rocak are still on campus (saw Rocak recently).
  • Portal Watch (2024)
    Agree. that he returns.

From TY's Instagram: "I'M BACK" I will be declaring for the NBA Draft while maintaining by eligibility. Excited for the process and ready for the journey.

Not exactly sure what that all means . . . Does it mean he's exiting the portal and returning unless he gets drafted?
  • Tara Vanderveer retiring!
Same here. I always believed that the moment that TVD retired, that it was Coach Gross' job for the taking. No knock on Coach Paye; she's got a very high ceiling AND her Stanford roots run very, very deep (born at Stanford hospital, brother was a 2-sport star for The Cardinal, walked on and won the point guard job for TVD, etc., etc., ...

No head coaching experience but the athletic department may see this as the safe and obvious choice - keep continuity, keep the recruits, and someone who can easily lean on TVD for advice.

    My thoughts exactly.
  • Portal Watch (2024)
TY is in the portal, per verbal commits and his IG feed.

Regarding the admission challenge . . . I, too, heard that from Hawk. I've heard a few whispers in Athletics that the admission problem is being addressed and remedied. No verifiable intel, but those are a few "whispers" I've heard. Plainly, Davis needs a sensible "lane" in order to get student-athletes in to school in line with the pace and timing of other schools. Some of our best, most locked-in transfer recruits have signed elsewhere because we couldn't notify them of admission quickly enough. Obviously a risk not worth taking.

Cal has some guys in the portal that would look good in an Aggie uniform. Peja Stojaković's kid, Andrej (formerly of Jesuit), is leaving Stanford after a productive freshman season. Playing close to home might be an attractive option for him. And I'm sure Coach Les and Peja are very familiar with one another. The Ivies also have a couple of grads in the portal.

It's been a pleasure to watch to watch Pepper grow into the outstanding basketball player that he is today over the last 5 years. He is certainly one of the greatest Aggie players ever to wear the uniform.BlueGoldAg

    100% agree.
  • 2023 Season Preview
Rumor has it that the admissions office is not a friend of athletics. Very, very slow. So slow, that kids commit elsewhere by the time we get around to extending admission.
  • 2023 Recruits?
    Hmmmm . . .

Pepper is going to declare for the draft but retain eligibility
  • MBB: Upsets Galore Tonight in the Big West
Just saw the video of Coach Turner charging at the refs. Security had to step in. Bad look for UCI.
  • MBB: UC Davis (13-8, 6-3) at Long Beach State (5-4, 11-10) Sat. Jan. 28 at 1:00 pm
Foul on that last shot by TY. Tough loss to choke down. Ags fought hard. On to the next. GO AGS!!!
  • Record attendance tonight (students and total)
I was also happy to see the Aggie Pack spirit leaders appropriately channeling the Aggie Pack energy. For example, hyping up the noise when the Ags are trying to stop USD on 3rd downs. Also, keeping them quieter when we are trying to convert on 3rd down when we are on offense so our guys hear the QB

Ugh. And THAT'S the kind of BS that rubs me the wrong way. :rage:

Happy to share my thoughts. Simply put, I just error on the side of caution. On the road I always mind my manners and don't do things that will set people off, but I also avoid the areas where even polite support for the away team is unwelcome.

Like many, I have been to Idaho. Many Idahoans hold a real distaste for all things California. And it's kinda ugly. Some folks are great . . . but many others will tell you to your face what they think of YOU and our state. I had a lady (who looked like your average suburban soccer-mom) aggressively cuss me out as I got out of my car at Albertson's because of my California plates. No provocation at all, just called us names and directed us to go back to our "s**thole of a state and die." :yikes: "DIE"! Seriously crazy.

We've all seen way too many videos of bad behavior by fans in the stands. I just politely support my team and move on. I'm never looking for a fight. And certainly not one where I am horribly outnumbered.

Enjoy your games! That's a nice sports-travel itinerary, for sure.

Thanks for your rundown. I’ve always viewed gameday etiquette - when my team is the visitor - as an easy task. And one of the elements is never sit in the premium hometeam section. But hey…maybe thats just me. I want to watch and support my team with no potential confrontations with opposing fans.

The USD fan was a woman with a small novelty cowbell. They originally sat elsewhere so it may have been a case of not knowing the sections/rows/seats, etc. And, from my vantage point, she made a point to make a racket when USD had the ball (so bad form, at least - quiet on offense, loud on defense). I had USD alums near me who were fantastic. Of course, they had virtually zero reason to cheer/gloat, etc.

Preach. Yep . . . I'd love to hear about who is WITH us, rather than who is leaving.

How this (the exodus) isn't deserving of an article in the Davis Enterprise is a mystery.
