  • Week 4: Idaho @ UC Davis
I feel much better about our defense after last week. Offense will get back in sync. We win comfortably
  • Moving Up In Polls
Stanford moved up to 7 in the polls. probably due more to losses by Wisconsin and Auburn, than respect to the Cardinal beating us!
  • Week 4: Idaho @ UC Davis
plus the game vs W. New Mexico was 21-10 at the half, 28-10 after 3. they scored 28 in the 4th to put up the big numbers.
  • Week 4: Big Sky
Classes start sept 24 so this upcoming weekend is move-in weekend. Running of the first years
  • Week 3: UC Davis @ Stanford
I think the 11:00 start was a hinderance. There was a bus from Davis that was mostly full; not sure what time they had to leave. Alumni pregame section was full. Our section ( part of our season ticket packet ) was mostly empty. Some folk were standing in the breezeway but I think most didn’t make the trip.
  • Week 3: Big Sky
On a somewhat related note, Harvard Bear San Diego 36-14 at Harvard
  • Week 3: Big Sky
I was really surprised by the score.

EWU hanging with WSU down 38-24

Idaho State’s score vs Cal was a little surprising, maybe just garbage time points?
  • Week 3: UC Davis @ Stanford
They did move down so they’ll be tough. Fresno beat them up 79-13 in week one before they beat D2 Western New Mexico 28-13. So not off to a torrid start. If we’re not too banged up and get focused on a FCS team, I like our chances

Looked to me like the timing was off with the pass game. Probably a combo of Stanford’s physical (and really good DBs), their front line getting enough pressure to disrupt passing lanes, and some new guys getting more looks. Maier was okay, considering the step up in defensive quality. He wasn’t helped by several early drops. We have to clean that up.

Defense was really solid today. Got decent pressure on the QB, did a good job against the run and battled against some big talented receivers. They were hurt with drive that started in great field position. Gives me real hope for the rest of the season.

Special teams? Bad, really bad. Short punts, and a blocked FG. Punting game was night and day vs last week. After the shank on the 2nd punt (first kick was a beauty putting them on their 15), punter seemed to be shaky. Directional kicks weren’t good, and line drives on the others. Gave them field position all day. Hopefully a onr-off and he’ll be back to his earlier form.

2-1 heading into a winnable home game. Be great to be 3-1 heading into a bye with some more winnable games following

I tried to find odds online. I think 5dimes had it as 26 points.

In contrast, San Jose is a 40 point underdog at Oregon. That’s a lot! That’s the extent of my gambling knowledge
  • Week 3: UC Davis @ Stanford
USC started a frost QB who hasn’t looked good in either game. They ran the ball okay vs Stanford, but didn’t protect the QB well. I think Maier will get the ball out quick and hopefully avoid big sacks.
  • Week 3: UC Davis @ Stanford
we’re sitting in 128. Those were included in our season ticket package
  • Week 3: UC Davis @ Stanford
Coaches show is back tomorrow at 7:00 from Woodstock. I saw a schedule for the year on a game central link that showed no scheduled show last week.
  • Week 3: UC Davis @ Stanford
i have a feeling it will be easier to convince my wife to make the trip to San Diego, instead of Fargo!
  • Week 3: UC Davis @ Stanford
I believe you were sitting right behind me and my son.
  • Week 3: UC Davis @ Stanford
I believe this is the first time we’ve played a team currently ranked in the top ten (9). Stanford was #13 when we last played them in 2014. Boise was a top 20 team when we played them, not sure about TCU

CORRECTION: according to the recap in ESPN, Boise was #5 at the time we played them!

maybe the new NCAA redshirt rule will come in handy. i read an article on Yahoo about Miami's liberal use of probable redshirts in their game last weekend vs. Savannah State. If i were a Power 5 school in this situation (game 3 vs. FCS), i might get my starters/backups off the field ASAP to avoid potential injury. Kind of like game 3 of the NFL preseason!

i think we might move the ball a bit better than 2014 because of Maier. Concern is they will get a ton of pressure on us with their front 4, and they can play with 6 DB to stop the timing patterns. Maybe that will open some run lanes for the backs. Hard to imagine us getting to the corner on runs like we have the past two weeks.

It will be much COOLER than in 2014, so we have that going for us.
  • Week 2: San Diego @ UC Davis
Sounds like he landed on the back of his head when he lept up to break up the pass. They WISELY play it very cautiously with head injuries. Glad to hear he doing well.
