my wife just wants concessions back at the basketball games!

i think they practice with as many 'healthy' players as possible. that's what we were doing before, often practicing with 7-8 guys.

as for your 'must be devastated'........i get worried that someone gets worn down by the restrictions/cancellations and decides to test the transfer waters. i wonder if the players who tested positive were asymptomatic but caught by regular testing?

does the 25 have to be regular games? We’ll have (fingers crossed) 23 plus whatever the BWC tournament brings.

I thought we suited up 8 guys v CSUN; would have to think some of the starters are part of this wave

Really sad. Finely get a few games in a row, playing better and BOOM another week off

Williams mentioned the turnovers when I watched today. I had forgotten about the ones others than Pepper’s two in a row. But there was a travel down low, ball off the forehead, offensive foul and Anigwe steal….I might have missed a couple more! Points off turnovers 12-0!

What was frustrating at the beginning of second half was the breaks Hawaii was getting. There were 3-4 possessions where we really defended well and they still got 3 points. Forced a bad shot, they got rebound and 3 point play. Anigwe blocks the big guy down low, he retrieved it and hoisted a 3. Those seem to zap our energy…until their sloppy play let us back in.

I watched the second half this morning; that was fun! I’m not sure how refs determined to put click at 7:40 after the malfunction since it looks like possession clock stopped.

I would imagine Hawaii fans watching complain about our announcers being homers! Marsh gets pretty amped up during our run

ba and shaw were both suited up.

Something overlooked ; Les subbed offense (Anigwe) for defense ((Adebayo) the last minute knowing Hawaii needed 3’s. Paid off big time with that block!

he had two drives in the second half that were incredible but somehow the ball rolled out. His energy and Pepper’s dagger 3’s really got the crowd back in it.

Agree with your assessment on Desrosiers. Didn’t seem like he ever missed. We were sitting high above our bench so didn’t have a great view of Hawaii’s offense in the second half, BUT, both AgAlum and I thought he was pretty liberal with his elbows when trying to establish position. Sneaky French-Canadian!

The officiating crew was weak, in my opinion. I’ve been happy with the BWC crews this season but this crew never seemed to click. Let alot of contact go inside and then little ticky-tack stuff far from the bucket. They were in the bonus with 12:00 to go which I thought would kill us. Both benches seemed upset and confused.

Just looked at box score trying to refresh my memory. At 8:58 they were up 51-41. Milling hit a three at 8:11 to start a 15-2 run over the next 4 minutes to take a 56-53 lead. Pepper had 10 in that stretch, 2 steals with buckets, and 2 3’s.

Beside the FTs, the other nit I had was when we went to the four-out delay set with about 1:20 to go and 4 point lead. As usual, we didn’t get a decent shot and gave them the ball with lots of clock left. I’d like to see us run our standard offense which normally takes 25 seconds and get a better look. Seemed too early to get that conservative

Very fun game to attend. Decent crowd, especially the students who got loud during the comeback. Plenty of heroes tonight. Angiwe scored well despite a number of athletic big guys. DeBruhl gave us quality minutes, playing tough D, rebounding and dishing done assists off solid drives - which let us sit Manjon with early foul trouble. Manjon was fearful down the stretch. Fuller’s d, Adebayo’s big block. But Pepper was the guy. Two steals in a row to get us back within shouting distance, followed by two HUGE 3’s.

Do need to talk to FT coach. One of those three firm the stretch makes the last 30 seconds much less stressful.

I can’t figure out the odds for our games. Never seem to make sense

that’s a good point. I believe the two of low output games coincide with the back issue. Last game he was 1-5 from the field, 3-9 vs Fullerton. Those games he seemed to rush his shots, lose his soft touch
  • MBB: Aggies (9-7, 2-3) host Hawaii (11-5, 6-0) 5 pm Saturday 2/5
We need to get Anigwe back in the offense. He’s scored 11 points total in the last 3 games. He was a very reliable inside scorer there, but is a little bit out of the flow right now. Past few games he’s been rushing his shot and missing some easy shots - could be the size mismatch he gets. A few early buckets by him opens things up

I don’t think he’s quite ready to run the point when Manjon sits. Fullerton really ramped up the pressure on him and they erased that second half lead. He does play hard and smart on defense

Big game Saturday with road trip to Irvine next week coming up. After that we have a stretch of games we should be favored before the last week of the season.

OldAlum - that was a great team. Lots of offensive weapons, long and quick defenders and a solid JT in the key.

riverside shot poorly from the outside vs us, allowed our defense to sag in on the big guy. Did the Highlanders shot better last night?

We’ve had trouble vs bigger MOBILE guys who can take it to hoop from 10 feet away. We seemed to be able to slow down McRae’s low post game

that’s a good sign! Hawaii has always been tough on us. I vividly remember the last time they were here March 2020 (a week before, well, you know) : they hit a long contested three to win 67-65, since after we scored late to take the lead. I was sitting on the sideline about a foot from where he released the ball, and my seat mate mumbled sh*t as it was arching to the basket. That one hurt

    good one!

I think the thing to remember with these broadcasts (basketball and football) is that we get the local voices, guys who see the home team play each week and who probably travel with them. Human nature is such that they are rooting for them a bit. All things considered, those guys did fine - did their homework (probably limited since UCR play by play can’t be a full time gig!), complimentary of our plays and seemed unbiased about calls (like the Fuller shot clock beater). Like Marsh, they call their guys by their first name and have more enthusiasm when they make a great shot or make a run. All in all, I’ve liked the commentary on these calls more than the occasional ones on PAC12 or ESPNU.
