from what I remember of the ‘crowd’ at that stadium, it shouldn’t be hard to find each other.

That’s a terrible setting. Miles from stadium in basically a city park. Stands on the home side only. Behind the visitor’s bench are several softball field. Very uncollege-like atmosphere!

the grass turf on the practice field is not the softest surface in the world! Feels almost like a putting green.

In some of the FCS fan boards, there are BSC fans touting Davis as the next to move up because we have a $2B endowment. Of course, only a mere fraction of that is set aside for athletics!

This discussion would have made more sense before the PAC12 blew up and the MWC was looking to expand. And before this new change in FBS scholarships (and related increased in other sports to aid in Title 9 compliance). At least, you’d know what you were signing up for in all sports.

Sac needs an improved football stadium and new basketball arena just to be on par with their current peers. I hope that happens for them regardless of where they end up.

several of their tailgaters joined us at one point and I was amazed at their knowledge of our team - they’d been watching film.

I also remember one guy taking about how we were well coached and had some talented players but ‘y’all need some more brothers out there’. I think he meant we lacked speed in the skill positions.

remember when Sourh Alabama came here in 2010 (I think)? They were playing JC’s, military schools and a handful of FCS like us. They had an equipment Semi that was bigger than Montana’s and brought a bunch of fans!

all driven by the power conferences apparently. That 90% compliance rule makes it tougher for FCS-> FBS; FBS schools only need to add 10 on both sides. With increased limits on sports like softball that’s east to do and be title 9 compliant.

boy I hope so - really screws up the basketball schedule.

they were FCS that year under ex Miami coach Larry Coker

I still get hung up on the increase in scholarships. The new limit will be 105 and you must fund at least 90% - 95. So, FCS -> new FBS is 32 scholarships on both sides. I know they are proposing increases in softball (nearly 20) and track that could cover the women without a new sport, but 65 new scholarships had to be an increase of around $6M. I guess TV and bowl money cover that, along with student fees?

Heck, bring on Tarleton and UTEP! Let’s fill the stadium up!

the whole reorganization seems so weird to me. Like all the sudden by labeling it the PacX, that Friday night game between Fresno and San Diego State is going to draw more eyeballs.

I know market size is important, but i think quality of the conference means much more when it comes to getting a lucrative TV contract. I don't think ABC was counting on huge numbers last Saturday in Tuscaloosa and Atlanta to drive their advertising sales.

Portland often hit big plays and a running QB is always a threat (see the 4th quarter vs Idaho). I think our defense last week was very focused on #6 and we’re in man quite a bit - made us susceptible to the QB running for big gains after the coverage forced a scramble. I think Coombs will have something ready for that from the get go.

Did i hear Brock predict Portland State by 10?

"The Mountain West is having serious discussions with FCS Tarleton State?!?!

    WTF!?"

that was the reaction of everybody in the Sac12 that pledged $35M for NIL!

I've lost track.....we're up the to the Pac7? So, they need a minimum one more for the NCAA, and 2 for better football scheduling? I believe that Boise, Colorado State and Utah State don't play baseball, so the P4 baseball conference should be interesting.

Fans will be lining up to watch University of Texas El Intercepted Paso come to town!!
  • Sac State to get a New Stadium
Only in the state capital can you pledge to spend $40M not knowing what the product is nor the customer!

This isn’t a knock on Sac. I just don’t see how this is a sustainable model for anyone outside the power 4 conferences. I can’t imagine substantial TV money coming to either the MWC or PACX. Its just a mess

I agree it was smaller than UT, but the reported from is 60% of that crowd.

The west side hasn’t been highly populated all season. Many game to game fill ins with parents or just people buying online. Part of the problem is that random fans rush down and yell in our ears ‘why didn’t we kick the damned field goal?!?!’. We need tighter security (that was you, correct?)
  • 2024 Week 5: Idaho (3-1) @ UC Davis (3-1)
okay, I need help with the reported attendence so anyone who has been to all home games weigh in.

    TAMC : 8743
    Utah Tech : 14832
    Idaho: 8921

There is no way there were 6000 less there Saturday compared to Utah Tech. East side was similarly full, grass similar, west side had more pockets of empty. But 6000? My guess would have been around 11000 and that the 14832 was a generous upcount with the orientation kids. So a pretty good crowd, not great.

And there is NO WAY there were only 200 more than TAMC. Something is screwy.

The coach who got the unsportsmanlike for running into the end zone on the 2pointer - don’t ever do that!

I’m a weird way, not faking that FG might have saved us. We could have been up 14; they’d have to go for TD instead of FG, and at that point I wouldn’t have bet against it. Then a PAT ties and we’re in OT. And I’m not liking our odds there
