  • Should Cheer Leading be an Olympic Sport?
Personally, I don't really care if they want to add cheerleading as an Olympic sport. If I don't like it, I won't watch. I haven't seen enough competitive cheerleading (especially international cheerleading) to know if it's a viable sport worldwide, but the Olympics is constantly adding and dropping events. New events are tested to see if there is interest in them, but If people don't embrace it, or in other words, there's not a positive return on the investment, it'll get dropped. By the way, tug-of-war used to be a track and field event in the early 1900's. I'd be in favor of bringing that one back!

I think that's a good game plan. Most teams that we'll play won't have a dominant inside game, so hopefully Anigwe can stay out of foul trouble. But it will certainly be a key to many of the games. I am optimistic that Murphy can give us some quality minutes. He showed glimpses, in limited action last year, of being an effective interior defender. And it will be interesting to see if Bora's time with the Italian U19 team accelerates his development.

I agree! I think there are a lot of givens on this team. I'm pretty sure Manjon, Pepper, Fuller, Anigwe all give us basically what they gave us last year (or maybe a step higher). I hope we get another contributor in the middle, either Bora, Murphy or McGill, and someone who fills in for Squire's minutes, Milling and Ba I would think. If that all comes together, we should be very competitive.

Thanks BGA! That's one of the better OOCs that I can remember.

There's probably several ways to look at "smallest" aggie team in D1, factoring in height with playing minutes, position. Some guys will play different from their listed size. JT was one that played big. Even though he was listed at 6'7", his physical nature and athleticism allowed him to protect the rim on defense and push "bigger" guys around. Where as AJ John, listed at 6'8", played more like a 6'4" wing. Not criticizing his play, but his skill set was more a traditional outside player.

But, just out of curiosity, I took the average height of a couple of teams. the 12-13 and 16-17 teams both averaged 6'4". Last year and this years team average 6'5". Your point is valid, though, as I'm sure there will be plenty of times where we see 6'5" as the tallest aggie on the court.

A little article about how DeBruhl found his way to Davis. Sounds like he’ll be asked to do quite a bit this season https://scorebooklive.com/washington/2021/07/26/leo-debruhls-up-and-down-recruiting-journey-ends-with-late-surprise-2021-commitment-to-uc-davis/

Here’s the official notice. Looks like he’s coming this fall. Should really help with our outside shooting.

definitely sounds like a mature kid who you want on your team. A tough year on him, as it has been on a lot of kids, but hopefully Davis, in general, and the MBB, specifically, will provide him a place to continue his healing.

From a basketball perspective, I’m wondering if he will continue to a prep school and not come to the Ags until 2022, or if he was able to pivot and get into UCD for this coming fall? If it’s this year, it’s pretty unusual to get a player of his skill level so late in the recruiting process. Either way, as BGA said, he’ll be a great addition.

Good to hear. Always a fun time to get some food downtown and watch the Ags dominate!

. Probably not a bad idea to have the faculty athletics rep having a son on the BB team.69aggie

it was about to be two sons in the program...not sure what will happen now.
  • Team Nigeria, with Chima Moneke, stuns USA!
That’s fair. I’m sure there is a winning it all expectation in the locker room. But, like them or not, guys like Dame and KD and Draymond don’t strike me as players who expect to steamroll everyone without putting in the work. Of course I could be completely wrong as I’m not there at the practices or seeing if extra work is being put in. But I just think that players at this very top level can’t make it on talent alone. It has to be combined with high work ethic.
  • Team Nigeria, with Chima Moneke, stuns USA!
So I'll be a little contrarian here. Since 1992, the USA has won every Olympic gold medal except for 2004. Talent is of course spreading out, as evidence by the fact that NIGERIA started 5 guys with NBA experience, but the US is still the dominant team. Now I didn't see either of the Nigeria or Australia games, so I can't say exactly how/why the US lost. But I do know they've had only a couple of practices (because most of the players were in the playoffs until recently). No matter how good your individuals are, it takes court time to really start to play well together. That's why they play these exhibitions, to see who can play with whom. I am currently watching the US vs Argentina (ranked #4 in the world) and I don't see guys who are being out worked or in it just to cruise. Are other teams hungrier than the US??? Maybe they are hungrier to win an exhibition game in Las Vegas, but I guess we'll see when the Olympics actually start.

I’ve been looking for a box score to see how Chima did but no luck. I did see that tweet about his defense. Good day for former BW players.

nice gets for the Ags. EWU had a good run last year, though I think they lost their two best players to the portal.

Just checked the 21-22 roster and it looks like Hogland is no longer in the program. He wasn’t healthy enough to make an impact last year.

I guess if I was Gonzaga I’d think the same way. It’s just an unfortunate byproduct of the current system

If I remember the story correctly, the Black Bear founder worked at the Davis location when he was in school here. I want to say it was a sambo’s at the time but don’t quote me on that. So when Bakers Square was leaving the location he jumped at the chance to put a Black Bear there, sort of coming full circle for him.
