  • Bob Dunning Makes His Case for UCD to Move to FBS
Travel costs, of course, would certainly be increased. But I have no idea if those increased costs would be made up for by increased revenue. Higher profile programs would, logically, mean more $$$ generated. That's only for MBB and maybe WBB a bit. Can't see any of the Olympic sports generating substantially higher revenue in the MW vs BW, so the basketball and football programs, of course, would have to make up for the increased costs.

I'll give my 2 cents for basketball. With the men, MW is currently a step up from the Big West. The BW is usually ranked somewhere around 17th to 20th strongest conference in the nation and is considered a one bid conference (meaning only the winner of the BW tourney goes to the NCAA tourney). Mountain West is around the 14th strongest conference and last year was a 2 bid conference (SDst won their tourney and Utah St. received an at-large bid at #11 seed). Will more people come out to watch us play Colorado St. and New Mexico then SLO and UCR? The average student might not care, but yeah, I think it would certainly draw more interest overall and certainly get our name out there beyond just Ca. As for the women, Coach Gross has built a very strong program and we'd probably be favored to finish at or near the top in most years. I do think the MW has a bit better competition top to bottom than the BW. Probably a step up on the women's side, but not as big as it would be on the men's side.
  • 2022 MBB Recruting
Gotta love a big man that can shoot.
  • 2022 MBB Recruting
That’s great. Glad to see some more size coming in. He looks like a big time recruit for the Ags.

Interesting. I’m assuming Les and Derek crossed paths in the pros, so that might have helped our chances over sd st and New Mexico.
  • 2021-22 MBB Scheduling News
There is a unscheduled exhibition game at William Jessup on 10/30 at 6:00. It’s a fund raiser for the Dixie fire with all proceeds going to the Red Cross. Tickets are $20.

Two places that I just tried that are decent are Guads Taco and Beer, and 3rd and U. They are across the street from each other. Guads is run by Guadalajara which has two other Mexican food places in town. 3rd and U (on the corner of 3rd and university) has some decently priced burgers and beer. Bad parking.

We need one more (at least) consistent scoring option behind Manjon and Pepper. Last year Squire had the next highest pts average per game. Fuller averaged 10 ppg but he seemed to go from unstoppable to invisible. He'll need to be more consistent from game to game. The big unknown for me is Milling. Can he go from 4.8 ppg in 22 mins at Nevada to maybe a double digit scorer on 25+ mins at Davis? In other words, can he give us Squire's production (though clearly in a different way)? Should be a fun team to watch. Can wait to get back into the U?

Hey Freg. I read the rundown so far. Great job! As for the Ags, yeah anywhere from 3rd to 6th sounds about right. As you pointed out, we have, as always, a lack of interior depth. Maybe Bora and Murphy step up and provide some valuable minutes, but that's just a homer's hope.

As for the pavilion, or UC, it did serve beer the last time fans were in attendance, and I assume it will again this year (no reason to think otherwise). Local hangouts have been hit recently, no more Grad and Uncle Vito's is still closed, and deVeers Irish Pub just closed last week. Best just to walk around downtown and see what looks good. Burgers and Brew is popular, and close by is Pizza and Pints.

In case you’re interested in watching basketball players not playing basketball.

  • Week 6: UC Davis @ Idaho State
that’s right, and from what I’ve heard, it can’t be pretty “uncomfortable” for the visiting teams to be that close to fans.

    I wonder why Larison didn’t get a bigger role.Riveraggie

I saw Larison come out early with with an injury. That may have limited his availability (or at least his effectiveness) the rest of the way.
  • Week 5: Idaho @ UC Davis
Glad he is well enough to get back out there.

Losing de Veres really hurts. We are actually going tonight for one last meal. Hope they can find another nice restaurant/pub in that spot
  • Week 5: Idaho @ UC Davis
During Hawks press conference today he said that Hunter is feeling good, no symptoms, and that, although he didn't practice today, they expect him to be available on Saturday.
  • Week 5: Idaho @ UC Davis
I'm wondering if we won't know about HR until game time. Not that starting HR or Hastings would really alter Idaho's defensive scheme, but Hawk does like to keep opponents guessing.
  • Week 4: UC Davis @ Weber State
we re-watched that last drive and noticed the same thing. Definitely an ill-advised throw and a fortuitous tip
  • Week 4: UC Davis @ Weber State
of course it was the middle of the night and it was a long day so I’m sure a lot of guys looked out of it. HRs health is paramount and I’m sure he’ll only get back out there if he’s 100% healthy.
  • Week 4: UC Davis @ Weber State
I don’t think they’ve announced a concussion for sure yet, but I heard he was pretty out of it on the way home last night. They’ll do more tests, of course, but it wouldn’t surprise me if the staff plays it close to the vest with his status.
