Yeah, I'm sure he was counting on Berry to be a big cog in this years team, in addition to losing Monson with a year's worth of eligibility left.

It will be interesting to see what Dr. Blue does. I generally like Les' in game coaching, but he really hasn't recruited the level of athletes we should. Yes, Chima (the Josh Fox re-incarnation), was a great find, and Henn has shown something as a true freshman, but we really need layers upon layers of these types of players (or better) to be competitive with other quality mid-major teams.

I watched a volleyball game a year or two ago in Hickey and thought it was a much better experience than the one's I've seen at the Pavillon.

    Ha, my daughter totally agrees!

I'm in the same boat. It seems like we've moved from the bottom of the big west to the middle. When do we consistently get to the top?

Can't add much. That first half was possibly the worse half of offensive ball that I've seen from an Aggies team in a long time. Our poor offensive execution led to so many easy transition buckets that it masked what I thought was pretty good man defense. The 1-3-1 zone, on the other hand, just gave Cal wide wide wide open 3 shots that they didn't have to work hard to get. A couple of passes and their best 3 point shooter would be wide open. The man defense seemed to slow down Cal, and the doubling of their post players seemed to be effective.

Well, I expected a loss, but I was hoping for a more competitive loss. I know the record doesn't really matter (just what happens in the conference season and tourney) but winning several of these last OOC (and not just against William Jessup) is going to be important to build just a bit of self confidence.

absolutely. No stupid fouls. I imagine we'll use zone to try and protect our "bigs".

I've got my tickets. Hoping for a somewhat competitive game.

yeah I learned it in band way back. I'm fine with a 30 second cheer that is totally unique (quirky) to Davis. But if they decide to retire it, I won't miss it.

OA, you make a good point. Hopefully the powers that be will at least look into the situation and make a well thought out decision.

For what it's worth, I saw Goode around town this weekend, still in a boot. Doesn't mean he didn't get it off the next day. Just hoping he's back and in game shape by the time league starts.

That's a good point. The staff usually has the team in the right position.

Frustrating loss. Too many missed opportunities and we miss Goode

Actually, that's another issue I've heard. Students never know when the games are. Sometimes it's at 6:00, sometimes, 4:00, sometimes 1:30. Not saying there isn't easy ways to find out the specific game time, but it takes the guess work out if the kids all know that home games start at 7:00.

One thing I've heard from some current students, is that they'd like have the team back on their sidelines. I know the home side was moved several years ago due to the sun/heat, but there is a sort of camaraderie that occurs when the students are right behind (literally and figuratively) the team. Maybe the team standing in the heat is more of a detriment, but it's at least worth a look.

Irvine beat SCU by 3. Not that the transitive property always works in basketball, but at least we are in the ball park with our 5 point win over SCU. Of course, I think Irvine is still missing their best player (Nelson).

When we play csun (and beach, too) it'll be who can dictate the tempo. We'll want to slow it down and grind it out with defense, they'll want to get out and run. Should be fun to watch.
  • BREAKING: Dan Hawkins to be named UC Davis head football coach
Just saw the news on the Sportscenter ticker. Doubt we could have hired any other coach that would have warranted an ESPN bottom line mention.
