  • MBB: 2025 Big West Tournament. Cal Poly (14-18, 8-12) v. UC Davis (15-16, 9-11) Wed. Mar. 12 8:30 pm
Disappointing finish to the season. I feel for the seniors.

Over the past 14 seasons the Aggies are 210-216 overall. In Big West Conference play, the Aggies have gone 119-107.....this is in a conference I'm sure everyone agrees we had our eyes set on dominating by this time in the programs D1 evolution.

3 ('15, '17, '18) (maybe 4...'24) "good" years over 14 is something to be looked at.

I agree with DrMike completely on the Stanford aftermath, and admin stuff....

But as far as that moment on the field.....
The word that comes to mind with the Stanford game is "surreal."

Although we were transitioning, Davis was a D2 program in every way (uniforms, gear, travel, facilities, and everything in between). Relative to the Pac-10, Davis was a rag-tag crew coming in to play the big boys. Coach Biggs and staff got the most out of their guys - a masterful performance.

The game was played pretty much in the dark (Stanford Stadium was cavernous), we had ZERO chance of winning the game. A lot of fans (theirs and ours) wondered if we'd even score.
It was a meet-up of past and present Davis fans/alumni to usher in a new era for the program. The energy in our corner of the stadium was off the charts, and it hasn't been replicated since.

The UNI game was definitely a celebration of a comeback year for the program, and a historic D1 victory. Top 10 for me.

This one is right up there for sure. The Toreros were riding high after the Harbaugh years, and Josh Johnson was getting national attention.
Beating the 10-1 Harbaugh Toreros at the Toom started a nice little rivalry for like 5-6 years (?)

Its the "Farm vs. Farm" DVD the Athletic Department released. Loudest Aggie football crowd I've ever experienced, by far. Aggie6thMan ripped his ankle open trying to climb the fence to get on the field.....never got down there, but we definitely tried.

The Stanford game is a night I will never forget. My one and only movie appearance as well!

Thanks, Mike. This is what we love to see!
Great to see a little movement, as a fan.
  • Sac State's bid for the Pac 12 Thread
I don't know much on this....Basketball will still play games in the Nest?
  • Aggie Pride: A UC Davis Football Podcast
You have to ask it like that....and it has to be the 1st question before intros
  • Aggie Pride: A UC Davis Football Podcast
This is probably not a suitable podcast question......

...But I've always been curious.....Do Aggies who are fortunate enough to play professionally at the NFL level (and presumably make a nicer than average living, aka Fells, Doss, O'Brien, JT...) donate to the program?
Maybe more generally, what is football alumni financial support like these days? How much do these guys want to see Davis on a larger stage?
  • Technical fouls among active coaches
He needs to bump his number of ejections to stay competitive!

I can't believe Izzo has never been ejected......

Corey Hawkins effect in 2015. 25-7 and probably the best season beside the D2 NC year.
That was a fun team with Hawkins, Adenrele, Ritchart, Avery Johnson, and D. Graham. Losing to Hawaii in the BW Championship was heartbreak!
Stanford was a tough draw in the 1st round of the NIT.

Completely different management styles: Brash vs. Measured. Its been interesting to watch both schools trying to do the same thing differently.

In the end, all that really talks is money.

We aren't going to do exactly what Montana and NDSU are doing, which is why I said "relatively close." Football in CA is never going to be what it is in Montana - we all know that (and its sad!)
In a perfect world, and with a 10,000 seat renovation, relatively close, to me, is....in a town of 70,000 people, getting 15,000 residents in the gate + 4,000 students + 1,000 football families/friends + 2,000 "others" like me.
I think drawing 22,000 would be a great start.

I am fully aware we may never reach that "start." I was just hoping for an upward trajectory by 2035.

I tend to be a little more conservative on this stuff......2035. I would love to be pleasantly surprised.
Growth seems considerably harder/slower in the UC.

I understand this isn't a requirement to move up, but I would like to see the football program consistently at the big boy table, like Montana/NDSU. Big Sky championship contender every year, and more consistent attendance at the FCS level first. Building a strong foundation is important for longevity.
We forget sometimes we've only been in the Big Sky since 2012. We also lost considerable momentum (2013-2016, 12-33 record) in those hard years.

If we can do relatively close to what Montana is doing here in CA, the sky is the limit. Big IF though.

I have no idea, but I'd guess SIGNIFICANTLY less.
  • Sonoma State cutting entire athletics department.
You bring up some interesting points. College sports at California universities seem to have been retracting, not growing, since the '90's (especially football). I was originally going to say "this sounds like a short term issue that could fix itself" but now I'm not so sure anymore.
I think any specific program/team that isn't bringing in some cash is on the block these days.
