This comment on the sac forum sums it up for me: "He hasn’t identified where the new track will be located. And if track is a priority (boo) then where will it go? If he is adding padding to the current bleachers, then he is not replacing the bleachers or infrastructure. Or removing the track. If they were really going to remove the track and pull the stands 30yds closer to the field, they wouldn’t incur adding padding to the current setup.

Quickly, morphing into Nevada X2 type stadium.

I can’t take any of this too seriously with a track in the football stadium. What started as grandeur and never been done at Sac State is slowly being baited and switched into FBS light. Just enough to get by. No wonder, nPAC knew better. MWC knew better and took the team that has a real stadium that can be added to easily and looks like a stadium. Not padded bleachers used for the Rose Bowl parade one time."

Too far to come w facilities, donors, budget. Will they are teams to accomplish his FBS dreams?

7149 Hornet fans show up for their spring game. You can't deny that they've created a lot of excitement in Sacramento.

Isn’t that more than your home playoff game last year?

This isn't an apples-to-apples comparison. There's one glaring difference here-spring games are free, whereas playoff games are not. If you had told Hornet fans they had to buy a ticket to watch a practice game, 7,149 people would not have shown up. Also, optimism and interest may be artificially high due to the new coach. Time will tell.

Having said that, there definitely is less interest in UCD football.

I don't want to take anything away from the accomplishment though-that's an excellent crowd for a practice game..

I mean if we are going to compare non-comparables, we could say the 70,000+ at Picnic Day outdrew Sac’s game by a factor of 10. Good for them though that people are interested.

SACRAMENTO, Calif. — In front of a record-setting spring game crowd of over 7,000 fans, the Sacramento State football team completed its offseason practice with the annual Spring Game at Hornet Stadium on Sunday.

In a controlled setting, the offense accumulated over 500 yards and scored 10 touchdowns while the defense intercepted a pass and forced five tackles-for-loss, including three sacks.

"Sacramento is a football town and we're going continue to make sure we have a great fan experience to bring fans here and give them a great product on the field to be proud of," Sacramento State head coach Brennan Marion said. "I just told the players that's it's really about their work and commitment to the program that's got excitement going and the buzz and the energy. None of this happens without the players' hard work and what they've done. I'm just very grateful to everybody in Sacramento who showed up and supported us."

Can you imagine if Sac State tried to do something on the scale of Picnic Day ? Where would they even put all the people ?

This is a good sign for the level of interest for FBS football in this area. Also, I have yet to see a photo that shows 7,000 people......

they say a rising tide lifts all boats. I think we are better when Sac, Poly, and Davis are all relevant at same time. Though Poly is currently beached so there’s only so much a tide can do.

No pics of 7k, so probably didn’t happen. Their propaganda team likely counted every person who went to campus that day including people going to class/etc.

Lol, I saw plenty of 7k home games back in the day. There was 100% 7k there yesterday...lol

if true. Then kudos to sac. Glad they are building some excitement. Hopefully they continue to succeed and not fumble at the end.

what did they do to promote? That’s a crazy big crowd. I’d like us to have a giant BBQ for students to get them out there. Not enough diehards over here to fill up the stadium for a spring game without doing something special

My grandson told me they gave the local high school football players free tickets (or admission). His team mates went so he joined in. If it was really 7,000, that’s impressive regardless of how they got the warm bodies in the stands.

Impressive considering Kings and A's were playing, and Master's was on too.

Anything over 1,000 for a Spring game is substantial in these parts. So, whether it was 3,000 or 7,000 doesn't matter. IMO.
Sac residents (high school students/players) are curious about what's going on with Sac football. The real test is whether all the big plans happen resulting in these interested people becoming fans. People (especially the HS athlete crowd) want the "real deal."

I have been to many spring games at Davis and Sac State over the past 25 years. I think 500-ish is the most I've ever seen. So, yeah, yesterday blew my mind. There were families (like mine), dorm kids, greeks, people that wanted to hit the food trucks, local teams, good mix.

Food trucks and families? So like not a regular Hornet football crowd of dudes in the parking lot pounding skunked Natty Ice and yelling insults at 8 year olds and grandmas passing by?

Plenty of fans/alums at Sac tailgates have real adult beverages like wine or cocktails lol

Its a good burn, but you and everyone know about FCS Playoff attendance issues.....South Dakota drew 6,100 for our semi.

I'm sure Sac wasn't particularly happy with attendance in their last two home playoff games either (9k and 13k in a 22k seat stadium). Both less than the Davis game the week prior 23,074 (as usual, your welcome :D).

With that said, I don't think any fans in the Big Sky (besides UM and MSU) should be talking sh*t about attendance (especially fluky spring game stuff)

Learned something new tonight: "Montucky" never heard the term, surprisingly. Montucky Cold Snacks might have to make an appearance at the next tailgate....

Marion has added another highly rated player with a history of problems. He obviously believes in giving players with troubled backgrounds an opportunity to turn things around and has brought in a ton of talent via the portal. It will be interesting to see if he can establish the kind of discipline and cohesive, team chemistry necessary for success on the field with the roster he has built.

Michigan State dismissed defensive end Itayvion Brown from the team last month. The move comes after he was indefinitely suspended from the team beginning in February and later an incident on March 17 that has resulted in Brown facing multiple gun charges.

Brown's legal representative entered a not guilty plea Friday morning for him during a virtual hearing in East Lansing’s 54-B District Court. Brown's not guilty plea -- on felony charges of carrying a concealed weapon and a misdemeanor charge of firearms possession while under the influence -- comes just under a month after the alleged incident. MLive's Matt Wenzel first reported the charges.
