I have a feeling we are headed in this direction. The script Davis has been BOLDED and enlarged and is now more visable. Its all about marketing. In the "old days" the script Davis was hardly visible from afar.

    This made me chuckle....

Also... Jeff Tedford @ Cal: from 1-11 in 2001 to 7-5 in Tedford's first year (with the same kids the last guy had). Motivation, excitement, attitude, and COACHING make a huge difference in a program. Cal hadn't had a winning season since 1993. By the end of Tedford's 3rd year he had them ranked 9th in the country.

This can happen at Davis. Cal was perennially neglected as a football program by Pac-10 standards (lack of facilities, and 'academics' not on board with football). There are some similarities here.

One thing Davis has always had as a centerpiece to a winning team is a QUARTERBACK. A legit one. Plough needs this. Can CJ be the guy?

In my opinion Jon Grant was the last winner. But either he nor Scott were elite at this level.

    The entire thing is childish.......
  • 2017 schedule
I feel like we've been going through an identity crisis since about 2007. First, with those awful home gold letters with gold shoulder stripes, and later with blue helmets, blue pants, etc.

I would like to see plain blue / white jerseys with gold pants and the thick script Davis helmet. And leave it alone.

But I do understand the need to market the "UCDAVIS" name.....

Personally, I like this helmet combo:

If I'm Crawford, I'm thinking Army is looking pretty
awesome right now since I'd likely play QB...and they beat Navy on national TV.

Not sure anyone under 5'11" could play QB at the D1 level except at a service academy or Cal Poly. I know there could be exceptions.....but I'm guessing we offered him as a receiver / emergency QB.
  • 2016 FCS Playoffs
EWU vs NDSU would be a great game.

Announcers during the NDSU game said the "MVC is the SEC of the FCS."
  • Aggie Rundown: Hickey Gym Remodel
The men should play a couple games a year in Hickey. The place could be LOUD. I would definitely drive to Davis to experience a packed house in Hickey.
  • MBB: Aggies @ Cal
Brynton can play. Other than that we are pretty soft, and pretty slow. Not a good combo.
  • MBB: Aggies @ Cal
At the game with the kiddos. Ags trying to stay in it. Way over matched. 33-16 3 mins left in 1st half
  • 2017 Recruiting
Looks like he is only 5'10" Watch his highlights. If he was 6'2" and had anoth year of QB under his belt, he would have offers from every school on the West Coast (in my humble opinion). Is he a college WR?
  • The Hawk Era - Bringing Fans to Aggie Stadium
It didn't matter where we were......pretty sure they heard us from the endzone at Toomey.
  • Hawk: New Facility, Increase in Budget ...
Just read the Davis Enterprise Article. Gould still blaming injuries and the kids themselves for not "getting it" as he is walking out the door.

I bet some people are insulted by Gould's idea that he "changed a culture."
  • Hawk: New Facility, Increase in Budget ...
Even if I agree with both of you, your logic doesn't't explain why Coach Biggs did more with less.movielover

Biggs was a better coach. I don't think anyone would disagree with that.
  • Aggie MBB Team Poster Makes the Top 50
    Purdue should be #1.

We are the only one that has autographs. Pretty cool.
  • Tedford cans entire staff at Fresno
I'll venture a guess that Hawkins will do the same, as did Gould.

North Dakota State alumni, fans and students LOVE their football team and University. It is evident.

I think we will be blown away by the engagement from the community and students if we start winning at the FCS level. And before everyone gives me the "there is nothing else to do in ND, remember Berkeley being ranked in the Top-10 under Tedford? They sold out that old stadium and found fans they never knew they had. It might not even be as hard to keep that momentum in sleepy 'ol Davis.

Its safe to say FBS is a pipe dream as we stand today, seeing as we haven't proven that Davis can fund a successful program at the FCS level. At least now with a motivated AD like Blue, we are finally taking the baby steps necessary to be successful. He has found donors (to get rid of Gould), and he has convinced a big name to be our HC so far. This train is rolling.

Completely agree on this. Gould was not a good coach, but it wasn't totally his fault. This athletic department needs major improvement. I think Blue has things headed in the right direction. Keeping the momentum is key. We had more momentum than we knew what to do with 11 years ago after beating Stanford in Football and Basketball, but did nothing with it.

The real trickery comes when we kick a field goal on 3rd down. They'll never see it coming.
