  • Week 8: Aggies @ Cal Poly
I agree, long term plan. if you want to keep football, you need to be playing at the highest level. Just my take. I've watched DII die on the west coast, and I think FCS will too in the next 20 years.

100% agree with that analysis. Not saying FCS is not great football, and not saying great players come from it, but being a champ in FCS is far more attractive than being Ball State.
  • Week 8: Aggies @ Cal Poly
I respectfully disagree with their current team being competitive. I wholly agree that they won't be a laughing stock if they go FBS (with all the scholarships, etc.). It's about recruiting depth, butI think they actually lose recruits if they are FBS. I suppose they could go to the MAC, or some equivalent, but I think they are years away from a full year of success at the FBS level. No doubt, teams have made it work before (i.e. Boise), but It's not like recruits are going to NDSU for the weather or academics. I hope UC Davis puts a plan in place to join the Mountain West sooner rather than later, but we need a ton of money to do it, and it will take a while to be a legit contender.

I'm quite sure none of those school fear NDSU joining their conference with 85. Frenso played Bama last year. Comparing a successful FBS to a successful FCS program is silly...not a level playing field. Davis, thanks to Hawk and donors, are starting to get close to the other programs for facilities, swag, and intangibles, but they are far off from most of FBS. Do you really think Boise State (Sagarin #43) won't kill NDSU (Sagarin #32). How about Oregon (Sagarin #34)?

I don't put much into those ratings. I'm super happy with our success, but put anyone from 1-AA into a Major, or even mid-Major, and they are fighting to stay off the basement floor. They can beat the San Jose States, but I think they get creamed by SDSU's, Boise St's, and Frenso State's of the world far more often than not.
  • Week 8: Aggies @ Cal Poly
TOP is the most over-rated statistic in football. Option teams eat clock, but often struggle in 3rd and long, and are in big trouble if they get down early. If its a score-fest, I think CP is cooked.
  • Week 8: Aggies @ Cal Poly
If our offense can stay as explosive as it has been most of the year, the Ags win easily. I see it going like this...CP 10 plays 53 yard drive for a punt...UCD 3 plays 82 yards for the TD. If CP gets behind early, it will be long day for the Mustangs. If, however, CP can D-up early, and keep the ball in their hands for scores, its a close game until the 4th when their luck runs out. Time of possession is not relevant if we score every time.
  • FIRST IN BIG SKY
This Aggie offense is what we have needed for years. For those of us who have been on this board suffering for years, I say heck yeah! Let's enjoy this!
  • Week 4: Idaho @ UC Davis
Honestly, they were pretty awful. Their QB looked like a high school kid, and we shut them down other than two (we are up big) drives. They benefited from a couple horrible calls to keep drives moving. Not a true test of our conference, but they got it done. I will say, they did a pretty good job on Preece and Doss...we need to find more ways to get them open.
  • Week 4: Idaho @ UC Davis
Idaho is terrible. Frenso State, which is a good team, played average and destroyed them. We should dominate this game. Their offense was completely shut down by Fresno's 1's. The kids need to get up for this one...nothing worse than a letdown at this point. Blow them out, get backups time, and stay healthy.
  • Week 3: UC Davis @ Stanford
So did we survive without any injuries?
  • Week 1: UC Davis @ San Jose State
Not going to happen in my lifetime. We beat literally one of the worst 10 teams in all of FBS. We wouldn't win a game in the Pac-12 this year (Oregon St. is also bottom 10, so maybe 1). Moreover, we would have to play 9 Pac-12 teams each year. Unless the poles flip, we will never get the level of alumni or university support to join the Pac-12. Plus, I see no chance they take an FCS team directly into the Pac-12.
  • Week 1: UC Davis @ San Jose State
That's hilarious, but not totally unreasonably someday (we have to raise some serious dough for the stadium upgrade). Per ESPN, SJSU was preseason Bottom 10 for football, so while we did our job, it wasn't that big of a deal. Not trying to be Debbie Downer, but Ronnie Realistic...lol.
  • Week 1: UC Davis @ San Jose State
Good win over an awful FBS team. SJSU football has been on the verge of being shutdown for years...sadly, it may be time. The win will look good for our ranking, but it's really like beating another FCS. I'm optimistic that we are finally running the offense we have to, but I'll truly celebrate when we have an over .500 record in our conference. Side note: the fact we couldn't see this game in any form of TV speaks volumes about the quality of our opponent and our perceived level. If we can truly turn this thing around, I think we will look back at this period of Aggie Football and laugh.
  • Roster Changes/Depth Chart/Predictions
I believe Rodrigues is a scholarship player, and he was brought in to fill the void that will be left next year and at back-up based on what we had on the roster. Don't know anything about Folk.
  • Roster Changes/Depth Chart/Predictions
Don't know enough about them. Traditionally, its a good match up for us (lower tier FBS), but they will have speed on offense. If we are going to play an FBS, that's one I'd like to keep on the schedule. I think the Stanford game will be bloodbath, and I'm just hoping we don't leave with a bunch of injuries.

QBs are often in trouble when the OC that recruits them leaves.

hasn't had great opportunities. Poor offensive game plans in his early years.

He's not really lived up to his hype, but who knows.
