We have two tight ends from towns 8 miles apart, Fortuna and Ferndale.
The one i just noticed for the first time is Prescott Langer from Ferndale

One of Langer's many notable two-way performances came in Week Eight, a 72-0 obliteration of Arcata in a battle of the Humboldt - Del Norte Little 4's top two teams. Langer ran for 54 yards and two touchdowns on just six carries, caught a 35-yard touchdown, returned a kickoff for a touchdown, returned an interception for a touchdown, made two tackles for loss, deflected two passes, and even booted two punts a combined 76 yards (one within the 20). That's a stat line you pretty much never see, which is fitting for a team that's been almost unthinkably dominant.

How did the defense look at yesterdays scrimmage?

Treynor Cleeland announced to the team as QB1

gave up a few explosive plays but otherwise was consistently solid

I really thought Ian Simpson was a major part of the offense the past two years. Last year he had 31 receptions for 425 yards and 3 TDS - but in addition brought a real “nastiness” to the offense. He wasn’t a huge physical specimen but was tough and had speed and many yards after the catch. Looking forward to see who rises at tight end spot this year.

No shock from what I saw in spring. Kollock is going to be fine and he will play, the gap isn't huge but Cleeland is apparently playing with a lot of confidence.

If Plough and the team are backing him then I'm sure the correct guy was chosen. Looking forward to seeing him play live.

Aside from Cleeland’s passing skills, the dude’s lower body is built like a fullback.

I thought they wouldn't announce who QB1 until the last minute to prevent the opposing team to prepare for him.

from what I remember of his recruiting tape is that he's definitely mobile for his size and he has a cannon for an arm. I would expect more deep shots this season compared to Pinnick.

Neither QB has taken meaningful snaps, zero for Kollock and a series for Cleeland. I don’t think there’s a difference in how a team will prepare for either one of them.

I wonder if Plough decided to push for an arm like that after Pinnick nearly getting injured or puttering out in some plays when he tried to get runs. At his best he looked like Mahomes running around, at worse looked like a deer in the headlights.

yeah, Pinnick gave us a lot of exciting plays when he chose to run the ball, but there were too many times that held onto the ball waaay too long resulting in big losses. He was a freshman so some poor decision were to be expected, but that is something that I hope is cleaned up this year with Cleeland under center.

And UW doesn’t start until the next week so Cam should be able to make the game.

I am glad that the staff and team were able to settle to QB battle this early though. Get Cleeland as many reps with the 1s as possible now. Build that chemistry so we hit the ground running against PSU.

I agree with your take on CP 100% with regard to holding onto the ball too long. He also made some bad, late decisions with the ball. BUT, what you said about him being a Freshman is the key point. He was an elite FCS QB (as a Freshman!) who would have been an all-time great. If Cleeland can simply not try to do too much, play within himself, and use his legs as needed, he will likely be on a similar trajectory.

From the very limited sample size that I've seen, I think they're pretty similar, but there was just a slight "it" factor that Cleeland seemed to have that Kollock didn't. They are similar athletically, they are both willing runners, but I like Cleeland's ball a little better.

The Ags are in good shape with the QB room. I'd venture to say #3 (Eason) could be pretty good as well, he's a taller version and maybe better speed than the other 2.

People, not necessarily the same ones, make two arguments regarding Pinnick.
1) That Davis won’t take a step back because they are starting a redshirt freshman who has very limited game experience because Pinnick was effective as a redshirt freshman last year.
2) Pinnick made a lot of freshman mistakes.
We’ll have to see if Cleeland has the it factor that Pinnick had.

What tape is on Kollock? Two year old HS tape?

The gift that Pinnick has is that if held the ball too long or made a mistake, his athleticism and legs got him out of trouble often for a big gain.

Not sure if anyone else noticed that Stacy Dobbins is not listed on the roster. Maybe it's a clerical error, but I'm guessing it's not. Does anyone know if he'll be playing this year?

that's a tough loss if he isn't playing. He was really coming into his own last year.

DAVIS, Calif. — With nine practices under their belt, No. 6 UC Davis football strapped up their helmets and welcomed officials to Shredville for the first full scrimmage of the 2026 season.

This practice marked the first time both sides of the ball had the opportunity to preach what they've been practicing since last Thursday, going at each other with little restriction.

The offense got off to a quick start, with the first play from scrimmage seeing running back Matteo Perez go distance for a touchdown. The defense also had some nice plays, particularly from the secondary, reading the offense well and coming up with big plays.

Under center, the Aggies saw throws from a multitude of quarterbacks, including Treynor Cleeland, Jackson Kollock, and Axel Eason. The quick decision making and good play of each playcaller indicates that the team should not miss a beat in that position come kickoff.

On defense, the secondary shined throughout the day, proving to be one of the deepest positions for the Aggies as they move closer to gametime. Transfer Hayden John played all over the field while Trey Carr batted a couple of balls from would-be receivers.

Special teams also had their moments. Punter Dylan Mauro showed a strong leg, flipping the field multiple times. While transfer kicker Robert Meyer demonstrated his precision, nailing field goals throughout the scrimmage.

More on TEs.....I saw a lot of #0 Khutsishvili, and #80 Houseworth (Cal xfer). Tight Ends all over the place and hard to keep track of. Big dudes who can move a bit!
