I'm sure Taylor is giving his opinion to Plough on the Kollock/Traynor battle...my guess is Taylor loves Traynor for his ability to extend the play.

Hopefully a lot of folks turn out for the game. For those that can go please give us any observations and details you have! I would go, but it's a little bit of a trip from Maryland to go to see for myself.

Cleveland with a good drive. Stalls out.
Kollack comes back with a 15 yard scramble for TD.

Both quarterbacks need work. I thought Cleeland was a little better getting rid of the ball vs taking the sack. Lots of 60 yard punts but punt protection still needs work.

    How’s the turnoutc

Turnout was low but rather typical for the spring game.

Plough in the Aggie Pride podcast highlighted players who stood out this spring
Likes the QBs. and how they both bounced back from adversity
    Offensive line deep, more athletic.
    Fisher looks great
Mateo Perez going to have a good year
Koen Parnell a freshman WR really popped
Drew Cofield is the best corner in the country. Added weight.
Few and Fernandez are "wrecking practice"
    Sievers runs the ahow
Teeg Slone forcing a lot of turnovers at safety.
    Three good kickers

Definitely a defensive show in my opinion during today's spring game. Honestly it might be a flaw that I view this as a great thing I have trust in Plough and staff always with the offense if the defense can look this good on every Saturday we're going to be damn good in my opinion.

Parnell only played five games his senior year, but look at these advanced plyometric workouts! Solid build, 6'2".

Attended a portion of the Spring game yesterday and first of all, what a great idea to plan the game on picnic day! Small crowd but my guess is that after a few years it will become a bigger event. Also, what a wonderful opportunity for any future player to have an unofficial visit (lots for the entire family to see/do around the campus).

Yes, I was interested in the QBs and other positions but for the day, I was focused on special teams. All of our kickers looked great! It was nice to see the focus on kickoff coverage.

Also, my early season prediction is that one player, Xzavior Guess, will have a "breakout" season starting with punt returns, expanding his roles to other special teams, and then moving into the rotation as a receiver by the end of the year.

I’m intrigued about Xzavior Guess. Did he play in the Spring game?

So, it sounds like the QB competition continues to be back and forth. Doesn't sound like either guy lit it up. Probably didn't see a lot of the top receivers Saturday, or Fish getting many carries/touches. Here's a question for anyone that has been around a few practices: does the Offense seem to operate any better under one guy or the other? I'm sure Taylor's perspective will go a long way with Plough, lot of respect there, I'm just curious if there is anything you see aside from the execution that might be an advantage for one over the other?

Defensive line is what we thought it would be. Sounds like Coombs is happy with the Defensive depth development and from all indicators, D is well ahead of the O which is exactly what one would expect at this juncture. Throw the Connors Bros. into the mix and that side will be even better. I really don't see areas of concern or weakness on that side of the football, and you go several deep at most positions without a massive drop off. Great thing about that is the development of long term depth beyond just this season.

    Another scrimmage Saturday, yes?

I think it’s Cleeland’s job to lose at this point. Besides looking more comfortable, he can absolutely get you out of trouble with his arm. Sunday type arm talent from what I’ve seen so far.

Were the reps split pretty evenly between the two QBs?
  • Riveraggie

Taylor probably would play them both. Sac under Taylor often played two QBs, and had good results doing so.

I’m not so sure its Cleeland’s job to lose at this point, but i did think Cleeland had a better command of the offense. I do like the fact that Cleeland throws the ball away instead of holding on to it, trying to make something happen, and take the sack.

"...holding on to it, trying to make something happen, and take the sack." The byproducts of today's 7v7 culture. That and kids not caring about turnovers and just chucking it up rather than throwing it away or punting.
  • Riveraggie

Plough has stressed the point that he wants the ball to come out of the QBs hand on time. These are freshmen QBs, one with only weeks on campus. Let them get some coaching and evaluate them down the line

Yes. Still soo early. The leap between Spring-Fall camp should be large
  • Pacifico2

I agree that it is still early and there is a lot to be decided. I believe that we have two outstanding coaches for the position and they have until early-August to work it out. Poor decision making and holding onto the football too long are things that must be broken with experience and film work. We're in a good spot with several talented options under center. If anyone recalls, how does this compare with last spring's QB battle at this point in time?

I keep on seeing Troy Taylor's name several times in this message board. What's his role at UC Davis?
