Tim Skipper to Cal Poly would be an absolute coup for the Mustangs. Home run hire if they can get it finalized. Maybe he can find the original giant horseshoe trophy and send it back to us as a goodwill gesture.

And it sounds like Lupoi is officially returning to his alma mater at Cal as of a few minutes ago.

Will Stein got the Kentucky gig, good hire by them.

Should settle everyone down who thought there was a chance our guy would take the money and run ini this cycle. Too close and too much unfinished business. Go Ags!

Great Hire for SLO - that elevates the program, now he just has to deliver.

seems like a good hire, although I thought Wulff had them going in the right direction. Anyone who could get 3 wins out of the disaster UCLA seemed to be earns some respect.

I think he is a good hire, my question is still whether he is that much better than Wulff? He seems like a decent culture builder and has dealt with the modern NIL stuff at big programs.

I'll reserve judgement until seeing the onfield product. Everyone thought that Marion was a home run hire and while Sac had more wins than they did the previous season they missed the mark on fulfilling preseason hype and promises.

Exactly, so many factors go into being a head coach - culture fit, recruiting, player buy-in, booster/alumni buy-in, x's and o's, attendance and gameday performance. A Head Coach is a single hire, the coaching staff, the administration and the players you bring in all have to perform for a program to be successful.

Skipper isn't Marion... Cal Poly's problem is Cal Poly. Wulf was at least figuring out how to work around some of the BS and they were better this year. Now they start over again. "Three years, this guy sucks, we need a new coach!"

I would have given him another year.

Did Vigen take that Oregon State job --- or was there any dirt on that?

Due to Cal Poly's improvement under Wulff, I have to conclude that Wulff has been fired for other reasons.

I really thought Wulff had us headed in the right direction, but he loss me when we lost to an 0-8 Portland State at home. PSU finished 1-11 with Cal Poly being their only win.

I really feel Wulff was a great recruiter and raised the talent at Cal Poly, but he and the staff did not manage the team and games well. I was also annoyed that he never did press conferences and they never released a depth chart all season. It is a head coaches job is to engage the fan base and you do not do that hiding from the camera.

    A little odd. No pressers?

Admissions office is a challenge at Poly. Limited "exceptions" in that process, limited recruiting budget, things like that. Things that Plough speaks publicly about and fights for like summer classes and housing, feeding the players properly, NIL, all of that is lacking.

Wulff & Co. went all in on transfers the last two years in an effort to save their jobs. As usual, it didn't work. He's a very good and highly respected football coach. He just got caught in the whole "win now" insanity of college football, even at places that don't give a rip about their football program like SLO. If Cal Poly would've had the patience to allow them time to construct it with high school players, get into the new building, improve the infrastructure, all that, he would have turned it. Skipper will be successful if he gets that leeway. Yes, they were more talented this season than they had been, but they were obviously uninspired at times (Portland State for example) and that gets coaches like Wulff and James Franklin fired these days. I get the impression that the admin is clueless. That place is always full of excuses. Hopefully Skipper can turn the tide all across their beautiful campus, but that is going to be a job unto itself. There is a reason Coach Madden was NEVER involved with the program (it was his estate that gave the gift) at his alma mater.

Early reports, Marion headed to Colorado as OC.

They need to interview Marion ASAP so we know what lies were said. I alway said it: a Potemkin Village.

I envisioned Marion and Wood screaming at eachother behind the scenes all year. Seems like their personalities would just be volatile. Wood seems like he'd be sticking his nose everywhere. We'll probably never know.

Marion sites "not being FBS in 2026" as a deciding factor. That's an easy out.
I imagine he'd site "I did my job" if they were moving to FBS in 2026. Also an easy out.

The bottom line is he's likely tripling his salary.

They either make a splash hire in a month, or they start over completely AGAIN.

Sac cant be an attractive job at this point, right?
Things are about as bad as they can be right now over there.

The Go-Go is Gone-Gone in Sac. I've heard Troy Taylor part deux is a possibility. Peculiar timing in that they sign a huge class and he bails the next day. Bush league, but didn't we all had a feeling that something was up late in the season? I do feel bad for kids that signed there yesterday.

Marion is a very good OC. Not many FCS teams out there that could take the Ags to the mat on only nine pass attempts! That's some wizardry

Interesting, someone on one of these threads had them in the 30s and I saw something they posted earlier today where they were boasting the #1 class in FBS.
