Disagree with this one. Hard to get into a rhythm when workload is spread too thin. Ask Montana how their “rotating QB circus” went last year. Also tougher for them to have statistically significant games. Rotate 3s and 4s in when fits circumstances but otherwise best 1-2 should play

We now have one running back with meaningful experience available. Rotating running backs isn’t the same negative impact as rotating QBs, and its a position where players get hit every carry, run routes and block, so more likely to need a breather. I suspect if we had more blowouts reserves would play more, but Plough doesn’t play reserves until the very end.

That is fair. Somewhere in the middle is probably ideal.

I was just looking at carries.

He didn’t sit behind Lan last year, he sat behind Matteo Perez and that is the biggest slap in the face to Fisher I’ve ever seen. I wondered about that all last year.Aggienation818

Same here. I think Plough rewards "program guys" like Mateo and Mitch Dixon. I think its smart- when done carefully. I'm glad Jordan was patient and was able to see the big picture.

As a total outsider (not friend or family), I think Carter is being a little impatient here. He has 3 more years to flourish at Davis. Lan only had 58 and 65 carries his first 2 full seasons '21-'22. Carter carried 67 times as a Frosh this year. Lan made an NFL roster with only 2 years of heavy carries in college.
Vargas is highly physically gifted. I'd love to see what he can do in the backfield and being further incorporated in the passing game. He appears to be a very gifted receiver too. If Lan caught 62 for 800 in 2024, imagine what Carter could do with his athletic ability.
A guy like Trent Tompkins might be a good guy for Carter to remember. He wasn't QB1, RB1 or WR1 (though I'm sure he believed he could be any one of those) but he was all over the place, essential to the team's success, and an absolute fan favorite.

AND, just because he's entering the portal, it doesn't mean he's leaving- we've had guys look around but end up staying. This might not be about carries or catches, but just seeing what else it out there. No harm in that.

I’m not a fan of slighting fisher when he’s more efficient in every statistic and dosent give up the ball.EverythingAgs

I see no slighting of Fisher here. Everyone here agrees he's a great Aggie I'm sure.

Not accusing anyone specifically, but would be interesting to run some broad stats on out-for-the-rest of-the-season injuries and transfer portal cash grabs to see if there is a correlation. Kind of like how NFL prospects refuse to play in bowl games.

Most of the guys out for the season have been out for over.a month. Missing games doesn't help marketability.
It.would be interesting to know who is out for the season, we can only guess, but many of them aren't in line for a payday. Davis is only missing four starters even if you include Vargas as one. Of.those.starters two, the Connors, may not have eligibility. Winston Williams is going.to be devalued because he has an injury history. We've lost players who weren't consistent starters before, but it is unlikely there is a big market for them..

Do guys in the portal have to pass a physical before the new offer is valid? And what if an injured player can't partake in spring ball for his new team?

With the NIL making grants supposedly one-year deals, can colleges legally waive players who don't perform the first year or two?

Imagine our team right now, plus the Connors? Or if we get them back for next year...

I wasn’t suggesting anyone specific on our team. More thinking the broader football market.

Yeah I think Mitch is a dog though! But in regards to Lan not getting carries earlier. Carter was a 3 star who turned down fbs to come to Davis, we got lucky with Lan as he’s listed as a 2 star dual threat QB coming out. @everythingAgs, my apologies I don’t want you to think I’m shading Fisher. Just was a big fan of them as a duo and more so disappointed how coaches treated the situation. I think Fisher is amazing and hope he gets an NFL shot.

Agreed. If you look at Montana State (although acknowledging they are more run heavy) last year they had Scottre Humphrey, Julius Davis, and Adam Jones. Davis was out much of the year with injuries, and when Humphrey hit the portal to New Mexico, this year they still had Davis and Jones. Relying on one solid running back is fraught with potential problems in my mind as that is an injury prone or over-workload prone position.

It is also great motivation / learning experience for subs, especially when we're up by 3 TDs in the second half of games.

FWIW, NAU 215# FB Seth Cromwell has entered the portal. Was productive two years ago, but buried on the depth chart now.

Absolutely. So fun seeing him get touches. The place goes crazy for him. I wish he could have be utilized more over the years. To my eye, 85% of his work has been done in the locker room and practice field. He's an all-time great Aggie to me.

This is a good point. He has expectations, and rightly so.
