Plough mentions Mason Walsh as a new player on special teams. A freshman running back, likely here as a walkon. It will be interesting to see if he returns kicks.

I took it to mean we’ll see him on kick coverages to get some of the defensive players a break. Good to hear they are focusing on kickoffs!

I wonder if Wood’s mouth is going to run wild on the week before the causeway.agalum

Yes, I think you can be assured of that if he's still the president after all of the negative attention he is bringing to the university.

He will. SAC Fans already do it.

I bet he says something like 'Sac State is the premier university in Sacramento compared to small time UC Davis."

Agree with Mike, I believe he's talking about kickoff coverage. Our RB room is pretty stacked (our top three can all go), but RBs are versatile and similar to Safeties in their size/speed/ability to cover kicks in most cases. I still venture to say that many of the kickoff woes might be linked to where the ball is kicked compared to where the coordinator wants the ball kicked. Directional kickoffs are an effective tool IF/WHEN your kicker puts it in the right spot. I'm not saying this is the issue, it is merely a possibility.

. Covering kicks is the more likely role not least because there are 11 in the coverage team., but we have a safety, Riddick, returning kicks, having someone else.do that takes.a load.off a first string defensive player.Perez is apparently out so who is our third RB?

Vargas returned kicks against NAU, Kai Acia is the third running back as far as I know

Thanks y’all. We will have the Spotify and Apple pod up soon again. Randomly, some of the songs had copyright issues that we had to show we had rights too. YT cleared it

It will be strength on strength with our Corners vs. their WRs.
Gibson likes to go deep on the sidelines to Cheeks and Munroe, both of whom have good size. Sac State was burned multiple times by what seemed to be 50/50 balls. The one time Sac intercepted me of those, the DB was actually a step ahead and was able to look back. The Aggie DBs will be tested I am sure.

Their big running back, Price was impressive versus Sac. None of their other running backs did much.

Well, so far this week Northern Colorado is winning...the Press Conference Proper Volume Award anyway. Going to be a great game.

Impressed with Coach Lamb. I'd want to play for him. Had a lot of great things to say about the
UC Davis Football program and the University as a whole. He certainly touched on the level of crowd they get at home, and how having alumni and the community show up on game day makes a real difference.

Samuel Akem thinks Davis’ defense is unsound, pass defense 110th Thinks it will be a shootout with whoever has the ball last winning

Earlier in the week I was feeling the Ags would win by a fairly wide margin.

Now, I think the Ags pull out the W, but it could be a squeaker.

I think Marquise Bell and Drew Cofield are going to get more action than they have in BSC play so far. Definitely a chance for these dudes to further show their talent by getting some picks.

Plough and Co. will need to get these guys up for playing in a sleepy atmosphere (like last year at PSU). I think they will rise to the occasion.

I agree on the uniform combo, gold/white/gold time.

I agree that our Corners will be tested, especially by #3 on vertical shots.

I disagree with the analysis that the UCD defense is "unsound". That refers to scheme, and not only are the game plans sound, but our adjustments tend to be even better.

I stand by my original take last week that their OL is average at best. They had better get it out quickly tomorrow. Expect quick throws to the perimeter, screens, dink and dunk with some shots mixed in.

I would hate to prepare for Plough coming off a bye.

I believe they probably learned something from their trip to the park in the Portland-suburbs last season.

I don't see this being closer than a two TD game. I think the closest comp is Southern Utah, and I would rather face an elite receiving threat than a great RB any day.

I see us playing a lot of man coverage on 3rd and long. Not a big fan of that this week. Feel we can handle their run with a 6 man box to keep their receivers from making big plays over top. Would love Cofield on #3 all game whether we’re in zone or man I think we should travel him, with safety help. We’ve also been able to sack the QB rushing 4 which helps. All that being said, this feels like Portland State last year and giving me “Win by the hairs of our chin” vibes..

It will be interesting to see if quick learner Caden Pinnick adds a bit more to his game. Our near error-free ball has been a key, but I don't expect it to continue forever, nor do I expect 85% completion percentage. I'm sure our late-season opponents will have all his tapes.

Caden Pinnick has to be in contention for the best Freshman performance at QB as an Aggie.

That claim doesn't go to Biggs, Peterson, or even O'Brien. Randy Wright is one of the few to have started as a Frosh (wasn't he even a true Freshman?).

I read that Pinnick rode the train from Sacramento to attend Spring ball while still in high school. That means he had two Spring camps before he played (??).

Jim Speck 1973 -1976 was a true freshman in era before redshirt freshmen at Davis is in the hall of fame. He is in the hall of fame. As a freshman Speck played in Davis’32-31 Thanksgiving weekend loss to Boise State and passed for over 300 yards in that game. That was an era when Davis was outsized by major D2 scholarship programs like Boise. Boise narrowly lost in the final seconds in the D2 Semifinals. Davis beat Nevada and Santa Clara that year ending 7-3 record.
