In case everybody didn't know. UNC is good - watch that @ Idaho tape - their QB is a player, they have some nice weapons on offense, and their defense has been improving all year. Statement Ed Lamb win @ Idaho, it's Lamb's 2nd year with the program and they are trending up right now, way up. Remember they had Colorado State on the ropes this season, and only lost at the end after a very controversial call.

Davis will hit the books and the trainer's rooms - getting healthy this week, then the game plan begins.
Saturday, October 25th Kickoff is 12 pm PT. Expecting sunny to party cloudy conditions at this point with highs in the mid-50's. Never know though, weather could move in.

I will be in Las Vegas tuning into the 1140 KHTK broadcast.

I still can't get over that overturning 'incomplete pass' call at the end of the Colorado State game. Ed Lamb must be so battle torn that the call didn't even phase him - can you imagine Paul Wulff getting that call turned around against him?

Lamb is a very good football coach and proven program builder. This game is one to be cautious of. However, UNC is prepping for travel to and a game against Sac State. The Aggies start UNC prep today with four extra days of practice and the weekend off. And we're better. Advantage: Plough boys...

This one is very scary. Looking at our remaining schedule, we have 5 tough games ahead.

    Hopefully UNC beats Sac State.

My imagination immediately comes up with an outcome of that hypothetical - instant stroke.

Unreal to overturn that one. The guy caught the ball. Even if he didn't, there was no evidence (on the angles shown on TV) to overturn the call on the field.

Surprise! Davis is the second best team as far as points allowed per game in Big Sky Conference play, mostly without the Connors brothers and others. Giving up 21 points per game behind only MSU, at 9.
Davis is tied for 2nd with that team across the causeway giving up 5.1 yards per play, which ain’t good but is better than everyone else except Montana State’s 4.3.

Very impressive! This guy is an inspirational person and I hope we can keep him

Like last year, the offense looks like it is hitting its stride and turning it on at the halfway point.

The defense, with all the key injuries, is the question going forward. Kickoff return game has become an issue as well (hopefully a short-term thing).

So far in Big Sky play the Aggies defense is holding teams to 21 ppg (vs. bottom tier offenses though).

The remaining 5 opponents can score some points (UNC scored 49 at Idaho).
    (Conference only stats):
Idaho State 26 ppg (a little surprising)
    Idaho 31.5 ppg
    UNC 33.5 ppg
    Montana State 46.3 ppg
Sac State 39.5 ppg (starting to figure things out)

I think the question is can the Ags keep these last 5 teams under 35 points and give the offense enough opportunities to score in the 40's.

Davis is scoring 37.7 ppg thus far.

Do we have enough depth at LB and DL?
  • Riveraggie

    In conference only stats:
Davis is second best in the conference in rushing defense per carry, but tied for 7th in offense yards per carry.
Davis is second in scoring per game, third in scoring defense,
Second in yards per play gained , tied for second best in yards per play allowed.
First in passing efficiency but only 7th in defensive passing efficiency.
On offense passing is a strength, rushing just average.
On defense rush defense is a strength, pass defense just average.

While LB depth may be a concern, there haven’t been any new DL injuries this year thankfully and they seem to rotate several guys

This is an interesting chart from the AGS weekly poll that includes the SOS as well as the best win so far according to the Massey Ratings (click on the image to enlarge it):

I was curious who had the No. 1 SOS and it's Portland St. Easy to see why. They played BYU (currently 6-0, No. 15 in FBS) and Hawaii (5-2) as well as No. 3 Tarleton St, No. 11 North Dakota and No. 21 Northern Arizona.

Montana State playing way better football than Montana right now. Montana State SOS way higher than Montana right now...

I think Montana being ranked higher is merely as simple as Montana State having 2 loses (really good loses).

I think MSU and Tarleton should be swapped in both polls.
Montana always overrated now matter how good they are.

It’s a shame we have MSU in Bozeman instead of (and/or not in addition to) Montana in Davis this year. Not sure how big sky scheduling works but seems like either or both of those games could have happened as the reverse of last year. Seeing how Montana has fared against ISU and Cal Poly makes me like our chances against the Griz in Shredville. Conversely I frankly wouldn’t be surprised to see MSU run away with the game given that it’s at their place and the weather will probably really suck compared to California

Not really sure how Montana pulled off this cupcake schedule, but the FCS media is eating it up. Montana St has had a vastly tougher schedule so far and will on-going.

Montana seems to do this a lot....then Hauck goes around bitching to the committee to improve their seed.

Montana's consistent success over the years has earned this benefit, though....

Montana State is clearly the best Big Sky team based on conference games, which is the only way their schedules compare. Not even a close call.
You can’t have it both ways, give a lot of credit for playing a tough schedule and then ignore the losses. How tough would Montana States schedule be without the teams they lost to? Tarleton State is undefeated and has a better win, Army is better than Southern Illinois. Gets back to the question if what the goal of ranking is. Is it to judge how teams have performed already or guess who would win a contest? I lean towards who deserves it based on their record.

Good discussion on Montana vs MSU. I told my wife yesterday i wish we were playing Montana this year instead of MSU. I would give the Ags a decent chance against MSU if we had all our role players healthy. At this point its going to be a big challenge.
BTW, I’m driving through Bozeman on Friday with my Davis alumni license plate holder. Last time i was there, i got some comments as i was filling up at the Bozeman Costco. I just might wear some Aggie swag, lol.
