Realizing now that New England drafted TreVeyon Henderson with the 38th pick as well. So New England has spent their 'new player' currency on a blue chip bell cow in Henderson and Lan as a 3rd Down swing, pass route, special teams back as well. Not sure where the other 4 on the roster come out.

The New England Patriots have made notable additions to their roster, particularly focusing on undrafted talent. Among them, running back Lan Larison from UC-Davis stands out, as he has been impressing during OTAs, even running drills with the first unit. His performance raises the possibility that he may challenge veteran Antonio Gibson for a role in the backfield, especially with starter Rhamondre Stevenson absent due to personal reasons. Larison's impressive college career included 1,470 rushing yards and 17 touchdowns, along with 65 receptions for 865 yards.
By the Numbers
Lan Larison rushed for 1,470 yards and scored 17 touchdowns last season.
He also caught 65 passes for an additional 865 yards.
State of Play
Larison is competing for a spot on the depth chart alongside veterans Rhamondre Stevenson and Antonio Gibson.
The Patriots are focused on enhancing their roster and have recently signed impactful undrafted players like tight end CJ Dippre.
What's Next
As the offseason progresses, Larison's development will be closely monitored, especially as training camp approaches. His ability to push established players like Gibson will determine his role and future with the team.
Bottom Line
Lan Larison's strong performance at OTAs indicates he could become a valuable asset for the Patriots. If he continues to impress, his ascent might signal a shift in the team's running back hierarchy, challenging the status quo and enhancing overall team depth.
"RB Lan Larison: The undrafted rookie was involved in two of the negative plays of the day. Not only did he fumble a kickoff return, he also was the target on Joshua Dobbs’ interception. Larison was covered tightly by Jack Gibbens on the play, who was able to reach around to knock the ball in the air and allow Jabrill Peppers to pick it off."
The good today: "Stevenson’s fumble followed on the next snap with Myles Bryant recovering. That possession ended in an eight-yard TD run for Lan Larison, who had a nice little jump cut before finding his way in."
The tough: "Team White’s possession ended in another Hawkins INT when a ball went right through Larison’s hands."
So, for guys like Lan, the Preseason is a huge step.
The Patriots will begin their preseason slate on Friday, 8/8 at 4:30 pm PST hosting the Washington Commanders.
Other preseason contests:
Preseason Week 2 - Saturday, 8/16 @ Minnesota 10 am PST
Preseason Week 3 - Thursday, 8/21 @ NY Giants 5 pm PST
Patriots open against the Raiders at home, Sunday 9/7 at 10 am PST. If Lan makes the New England squad, that would mean former NDSU QB Cam Miller, Former Montana State QB/ATH/WR Tommy Mellott and former Aggie RB Lan Larison would all be on the same field Week 1 to open the 2025 Regular NFL season assuming they all make their teams. Miller and Mellott were both drafted by Las Vegas last spring. Reports from Raiders camp are that Miller is showing very well for a rookie QB and that Mellott has "Yet to Flash", granted Mellott is undergoing a position change from QB to ATH for the offense - but so far either Chip Kelly hasn't put Tommy in a position to succeed, or Tommy isn't taking too well to the change.
Lan needs to ball out on Friday, every play matters.
Patriot news sources say LL has been impressive, but I also saw he dropped a pass and another missed reception was picked. I believe one Patriot RB is injured, and another struggling. He appears to have a good shot.
35 yards and 1 TD on 7 carries...longest for 16
2 receptions on 2 targets for 9 yards...longest for 9
1 KO return for 25 yards
- he was also playing on the KO team
"The roster transaction means Larison's season is over.
"The Patriots reportedly signed running back Deneric Prince, who will provide depth in a room which figures to be a strength in New England. The 25-year-old Prince played two games for the Kansas City Chiefs in 2023."

News: (August 10, appprox. 2:00 PM EDT) The Patriots placed Larison (leg) on injured reserve Sunday, Doug Kyed of the Boston Herald reports.
Spin: Larison suffered the injury during his two-yard touchdown run at the 3:25 mark in the fourth quarter of Friday's preseason win over the Commanders. He was seen in a walking boot after the game, and after undergoing further tests, the undrafted rookie out of UC Davis will miss the entire 2025 season.
