I don't know how this will all play out, but I think if they put out a winning team this fall things will change. I'm going to sit back and see how this falls out.

Here is what I do know. The national media is talking about SACST in July. That is not normal. I know the kids in camps are talking about Shaq and the new coach at SACST. I know they are attracting talent like never before. None of this is normal.

Too assume this will all end in failure before they have even set foot on the field is too early in my opinion. Let's see where they are in December.

Wood needs an editor - it's too long, too casual, too desperate. He forgets he's supposed to be a University President. And this:

    a new 25,000 seat multi-use stadium opening in 2026

What on earth is he talking about?? The bathroom upgrade?

Interesting that he says the school committed to 105 scholarships.
(The House settlement sets roster limit of 105 but doesn’t require 105 scholarships. The SEC limits there members scholarships to 83.)
Scholarships is likely why they are leaving the BigSky. As an FCS independent they can recruit just like an FBS team, and schedule as they would have if the waiver had been granted.

Is Woods sure that Sac will have a new stadium built to open in 2026 or is that just more hyperbole without any plans to definitively show that it is actually in the works? What is the "30,000 square foot football facility" that Woods also says that Sac "just opened?" I don't remember seeing anything like that but maybe I missed it.

He couldn't bluff his way to construction starting this offseason on a new stadium so he's punting to next year and hoping some sugar daddy writes a $200 million check I guess?

Here is the original tweet that Woods made back on April 10 essentially saying that FCS football is "JV football" as far as Sac is concerned:

Plot Twist for Sac State Football Independence + Updates On ASUN, WAC, Big Sky Movement

Well, this is another twist in the ever-evolving saga of Sacramento State. For those of you keeping score at home, the Hornets have gone from launching a $50 million Name, Image & Likeness (NIL) fund to scaling back academic programs, all in pursuit of the elusive dream of joining the Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS). A dream that, let’s face it, only a handful of programs actually turn a profit from competing at that level (or any level!). Oh, and don’t tell Ohio State, Alabama and Texas (among others!) that a FCS school has a bigger NIL budget than them.

Now here comes the latest chapter.

On Monday, the FBS Oversight Committee formally recommended that the Division I Council deny Sacramento State’s waiver request to move up to the FBS — the highest level of college football. That decision isn’t final yet, but you can feel the direction this is heading.

So, how did Sacramento State respond?

Yes, the Hornets plan to go independent in football, even as an FCS independent, if the FBS bid is officially denied. And don’t be surprised if legal action follows. A lawsuit wouldn’t be shocking, given how committed they seem to this path.

    Monday: Denial recommendation.
Tuesday: Leak an announcement to become an independent.
Wednesday: Make the announcement official in a very extravagant way.
Thursday: Find a way to make “Go-Go” work more into their marketing scheme for becoming independent.

    Life comes at you fast.

it’s in relation to popularity. Kids are looking to play in a fun highly competitive place. The old way of traditional schools has lost much of its luster. Those schools all have had excellent season that changed the perception of their universities. I can see something similar happening to sacst.

So the 2022 12-1 season with the only loss a narrow one in the playoffs. didn’t move the perception much, but this season will?
i don’t know if people appreciate how weakened most FCS teams are from transfers. Anything short of a national championship won’t be a better showing than Sac’s showing of just a few years ago.

I don't know. Honestly. it could blow up or it could fizzle. I honestly don't know. But I do know they have talent and talent gives anyone a chance. All I'm saying is we should wait and see who this turns out before jumping to any conclusions. I can say I will absolutely be at both SACST vs Davis games in basketball.

App is considered a success story. GameDay visited and they have had some really great seasons. They have incredible attendance for a G5 team.

Number of scholarships is why Sac is leaving the BigSky, they want to build an FBS roster, They claim to have a schedule for next year, probably including some FBS teams. Being FCS independent allows them to build a FBS roster, with the same schedule they would have if they were FBS Independent, no difference. Strengthens their future court case.

have they released their full schedule? Man, if they can get some big matchups and continue to grow their brand. Very interesting.

Fascinating....the difference in management styles between the UCD and Sac State Athletic Departments.

The bluster and hubris has made for some great entertainment.

I guess Sac State is still in the BSC this season but does Orr get to remain the BSC representative on the FCS playoff committee? I think this is year 2 of a 4 year term but I can’t imagine the powers that be Missoula and Bozeman have much interest left in him.

You got to admit this is pretty fun to watch. Now we just need to figure out how to capitalize off the SACST free marketing. That UCD/SACST basketball game in Davis should be a complete white out or something special planned. Same for the football game. Might be a great environment for recruits!

I would be hard pressed to call of this "fun". I think the only fun thing in association with Sac is when they are losing to the Ags

Trust me, they are paying through the nose for all the “free” marketing.

so is the “Pryor coach” Richard Pryor? And his previous tweet about the logic of “a lack of a conference invite signals readiness”????? Well they didn’t get an invite so….? Obviously should have said “unreadiness”. He needs to proof read or get a spell checker and logic checker.
