Sac brings in yet another player with a troubled past. Diesel Gordon, a redshirt freshman safety from the U of Washington, was suspended during fall camp last year and again after 2 days of spring practice this year as a result of being arrested for alleged 4th degree assault.

After his upbeat beginning last spring, he was suspended in fall camp for breaking team rules, according to DeBoer, and he was banished once more at the beginning of this ongoing spring football practice.

In the latest episode, the 6-foot, 164-pound redshirt freshman from Arlington faces allegations of fourth-degree assault in an incident involving him and suspended running back Tybo Rogers and a cyclist in what was termed "road rage" in a Seattle police report. Rogers similarly has been charged with sexual assault and has been suspended a second time, if not a third time, from the team.

from what I read, 4th degree assault in Washington is unwanted contact that does not result in injury. So was it street brawl? Or merely incidental contact during a verbal dispute? I mean, a lot of spandex-clad cyclists are big time Karens about sharing the road so maybe we don’t know what happened. While I want to respect innocent until proven otherwise - and realize the wheels of justice often turn slower than the next athletic season arrives - this is an unhealthy pattern of bringing in guys with baggage. It’s not like these are nonsense charges like noise violations or public urination.

ah got it, yeah this was no accidental contact, it was a stairwell beat down. There are situations in life that deserve second chances, this is not one of them. Totally irresponsible to bring someone like this into a program.

    What a joke.
Win all the games you want because next year they mean nothing.
    Seriously, zero integrity.

The video on YouTube of the assault has been viewed 1.5 million times and has nearly 11,000 comments most of which are highly critical of the lack of consequences for both players.

Bear Tenney a TE from Utah has committed to Sac. Tenny was a highly recruited player out of high school. He had 39 FBS offers which included most of the big Power 4 teams. He originally committed to Nebraska on April 24, 2024 and decommitted in November. He committed to Utah in December and enrolled in school there in January, 2025. He then entered the portal on April 16 and committed to Sac on April 21.

Marion continues to mine the portal for highly rated players. Sam Adams ll, a RB from the U of Washington, has committed to Sac. Adams had 41 P4 offers out of high school including the very top P4 schools. He has been at UW for 5 years already but did not play in the first 2 years. A lot of current Sac players have been transferring out lately to make room for all these new recruits.

 I'm sure that Hornet fans are excited about the level of athletic talent that Marion is bringing in but it remains to be seen if he can create a supportive, cohesive, team chemistry with so many new players coming in from so many different schools including several players that have have been booted out for behavior problems and/or criminal offenses.

Marion is bringing in the beef now:

Jordan Herman 6'8 370 OT transfer from Charlotte and previously Florida.
Nick Booker-Brown 6'1 265 DL transfer from USTA and previously NC State
Malik Tullis 5'11 291 DL transfer from Eastern Michigan
Donovan Haslam 6'4 332 OL transfer from Austin Peay

They need to, but will not, bring back some restrictions on transferring. At least in the past we pretended that players were actual students, but now the NCAA does not even attempt to hide it.
Playing at two schools I can understand, but 3, 4, or 5?

You say Sac State athletics raised 81K, they say 333K. Can you please explain the difference?
  • BlueGoldAg

The $333,600 is the total amount that Sac raised from all the Give Day donations to the school. $81,833 was the portion of that total that was specifically donated for their athletics.

Exactly, this means that UCD athletics alone has consistently raised more than the whole sac state university for their “give day”. So much for their big deep pocketed donors/sponsors tripping over themselves to give sac state football their Money.

UCD total give day was almost 4.5 million

I wonder if Sac is receiving a significant amount of NIL money from donors not listed in their Give Day total and whether or not their transfers are receiving significant NIL money from those donors?
  • Aggie Cisco
    23
yes. Some of it is that it’s in NIL. But I see many of their new transfers came from questionable past and are taking a little less now and being told to go to sac to rehab their image and improve their NIL next year and leave. Their coach has hinted as much in previous interviews.
Sac state is now 2nd chance U with rental players(not students) will stay only 1 year.
I don’t not like that college football is becoming the NFL with less regulation and kids changing schools yearly.

I mean the coach isn’t exactly noted for long stays at any job so working the long game on recruitment may not be a strategy he has time for.

I'm rooting for Sac State. It will be super entertaining, and the rising tide will float all ships. Whatever positive momentum they get will motivate the Davis admin to step up investment/focus on football, and we'll just get more credibility as we perennially beat them ;)
