Remember Keonte Jones? He pulled down 20 rebounds down in Northridge as the Matadors simply beat down the Aggies in SoCal. The other guy was Marcus Adams, Jr.,who bucketed 28. Along with guard Scotty Washington, those two continue to pace CSUN and will be the ones that the Ags need to contain to beat them in Davis. Every game is now a must win if UC Davis is going to get a first round bye. As poorly as they played against CSU Bakersfield, I expect the Ags to put up a good fight. ESPN has the Mats as 3.5 favorites and will show the game on ESPN+.

Line has remained at 3.5 which is a bit of a surprise based on recent play of both teams. This is a tall order today at home. Not to be a downer but we’re looking at closing the season on a 6-game losing streak, with 4 straight hind losses. I hope we can find a way to get a couple wins to get to 11-9 instead of 9-11). I believe slots 1-4 are realistically locked up, so we’re just jockeying for position 5-6 (we’re pretty much in unless CP wins 5 while we lose 5).

Matchups today should help keep us in the top 6 regardless of our outcome.

Been over a month since our last Saturday game - hope for a decent turnout AND turnaround on the court.

EDIT : i do believe we are in. Poly can end up tied with us if we both go on streaks, albeit in the opposite directions, but we would beat them out on the tiebreaker (swept the series). Probably the 6 seed.

Bako would have to go 3 out of 4 to tie (again, in the Davis doomsday scenario) to tie us, but owns the tiebreaker. they finsh with Irvine, at LBSU, at Poly and vs Hawaii.

Hawaii would need at least 3 of 5 (no sweep possible, so i don't know the tiebreaker) at UCSD, vs UCR, vs UCD, at Bako and at CSUN. that's tough.

Ags have come out with a lot more energy in this one. They're going to need to sustain it and shoot better.

Decent first half, but I wish we were up by a lot more than 3 at the half. CSUN is not likely to have 13 turnovers in the second half.

We’ve done what we needed to do defensively. We’ve made them play our game. They like to run and they average 81 ppg so holding them to 24 in the first half is a great defensive effort. Gotta keep it up in the second half and not let them get get into a fast paced rhythm.

That long scoreless drought hurt but up 3. Decent crowd. Frat group is bringing some energy and Darius Livingston is always great in Saturday

Ags continuing to play solid D plus making 80% of their foul shots. Where was this on Thursday? Now up by 10 with 11 to go.

Terrible time for the Ags to fall apart and let CSUN go on an 11-0 run. Time to settle down, guys. Pull this one out.

First time winning in Davis for CSUN in 16 years. Damn. This one hurts.

That was the worst collapse it has ever been my misfortune to see. How do you blow a 12 point lead with less than 7 minutes to go? I'm beginning to think that what this team lacks is that psychological toughness it takes to win in the clutch. Second straight game that they've let one of the role players on the opposition take over the game. I'm pretty disgusted.

I don’t know about psychological toughness, that seemed like more of a slow burn (albeit 7 of the last minutes)

I'm still doing a slow burn after the game. It's like the whole season is in the toilet, but I'm still going to the game next Saturday hoping the Ags can beat Hawai`i.

Tough loss for the Aggies today but there's nothing for them to hang their heads about. I'm sure the team feels bad about not being able to finish with a win after being ahead 58-48 with 5:40 to go in the game but they played smart and hard against a very good basketball team that's on a roll right now.

Les talked about how proud he was of the effort by the whole team in the post-game, radio. The Ags are pretty beat up at the moment with several players playing with injuries and Chappell apparently out for the rest of the season.

Anyone know what that heated exchange was all about when CSUN's coach, Randy Newman, was screaming at Les and the Aggies during the injury TO after Nils Cooper got fouled and hit the floor hard? It looked like Les had words with Newman during the handshakes at the end of the game also so he was still upset about something.

I can't figure that one out BlueGoldAg. It was definitely a foul. Cooper was hammered and he definitely went down on his wrist. His reaction was immediate. I haven't watched the TV video so I don't know what they said about it.

The long periods without a basket really hurt us. I still feel it's fatigue. The Ags play hard. They don't have a lot of depth.

Whatever it was a tough loss but a good game to watch. Adams is a fine player. He has this calm demeanor out on court. And the Ags didn't have many turnovers - again. If we don't have the depth we can't rest players when they need it. That's up to the coaching staff to recruit.

I think injuries have hurt our depth a lot this season too: Borra out before the season started and Roberson out except for about 2 minutes of PT in one game, Mani missing half the season and slow getting back into good playing form and now Chappell out as well. The lack of depth hurts us even more because we exert so much energy defending and creating TO's that the players must be running on fumes late in the games.

We were up 11 with 7 to go when Rocek got his fourth foul (WEAK!). When he got in with 3 to go, it was a 1 point game. Not having a backup killed us.

That one hurt. Kid played their asses off against a superior team and probably should have won.

...and that WEAK foul on Rocak was called by the same ref that let Sevilla get mugged just moments before. I thought the big ref with white hair made a bunch questionable calls and he was never consistent in what he was allowing and what he was calling...

I get that the Aggies played well for most of the game and the Matadors need to have full credit for coming on strong at the end and winning. If I were a CSUN fan I would be very happy. Still, I did not see fatigue toward the end as much as a case of panic setting end when the Mats started their run. It was similar to the way we lost to the Roadrunners. Good teams are able to find ways to win in the clutch. Right now, UCD appears to be headed for a 9-11 season and a probable 6 seed. I'm hoping for 10-10 if we can beat Hawai`i.

"Our guys played their tails off," Les said.

"Northridge just made one more play than we did and they shot a heck of a high percentage late in the game that put a lot of pressure on us. But I'm proud of our effort. I told the guys a lot of good things happened and they should have no regrets. They left it all on the floor."

Added Les, "We have a week to get ready, get healthy and get energized for the stretch run."

I think they felt Roberson was going to be a real contributor. I was talking to one of the dads about the team and how the Borra and Roberson injuries really hurt. He said his son referred to Roberson as ‘a game changer.’

You never know, but had he been a 25-minute a game solid scorer AND we had Borra to give us a solid 15 minutes (he got buffed!), this would have been a more rounded team. Can’t recruit into two late injuries.

This is not meant as a criticism of TY Johnson, but it just struck me that one of the main problems that the Aggies have had recently is the lack of a true point guard. TY is really more of a shooting guard, yet he usually brings the ball into the front court. He only averages 2.8 assists per game, which is 15th in the Big West. Devin Askew of Long Beach State is first with 4.7 apr. TY's assist to turnover ratio is 0.72. Leo DeBruhl, meanwhile, has a 2.1 ratio and leads the Ags in that category as well as apr, 2.1. Maybe Coach Les thinks of DeBruhl as his point guard, but I haven't had the sense that Leo really has that role. Thus UCD ranks 9th in the conference in assists per game and 8th in assist/turnover. Eli Pepper was not a true point guard either, but his presence really gave the Aggies a great 1-2 scoring punch and it placed TY in the point guard role last year in which he averaged 3.3 apg.

Next yer the Aggies will be without four current starters, returning only Sevilla. Between the returning players and the new recruits this will be one of Coach Les' biggest challenges in molding a new team. Then, too, I wonder who we meet lose to the transfer portal?

this is kinda the same spot as last year, except Niko was a surprise return.
