Looks like we'll have a change at WR coach:

Football Scoop: "New Mexico: Colin Lockett is expected to join the staff as receivers coach after a season at UC-Davis coaching the same position, per CBS Sports."

Looks like Isaiah Jackson is moving on as well. He's taking up the role of Special Teams Coordinator at South Dakota State. He's been at Davis since 2017 in Hawk's first season.

And all of our recent WR offers and commits are tagging Trey Shimabukuro in their twitter posts so it wouldn't surprise me if he's taking up the role as WR coach. He was listed as just a general offensive assistant coach on last year's roster.

They don’t even have a bio posted for Trey. Trey was the placeholder at QB coach when they were waiting for Shelton. Shimabukuro and Burke are the only coaches who have played QB, albeit at a lower level. With the number of young QBs we have you’d think that they need someone who played the position to coach the QBs on individual skills. Plough likely can’t devote the time. Shelton played wide receiver at a very small school.

Alum connections, your money goes further, South Dakota has lower taxes, but probably the ideal of coaching for a great FCS team at your alma mater won out. He also started as a GA at Sioux Falls so he's connected to SD.

FWIW, Jimmy Roger's left SDSU to become the HC at WSU after back to back title runs.

On spring roster missing are Verner, McWilliams, Shamburger, after losing Cotton and Bains to transfers. All those guys had eligibility.

Looks like Trey Carr (Fresno CC) and Ty Richardson (Tufts) are committed to coming here, so that's good.

I always figure some guys will find something else to do after putting in four years or so. But losing all of them, if that is indeed the case is a blow. Add Gavin Cooke to the list.

Judging from the Spring roster, Eli Simonson has found something else to do after starting every game for Davis at left tackle for the last two years.
Only four guys have played significantly, Rodriguez, Souriolle, Collier, Main, both tackles no longer here. Main will be coming off an knee injury.
The rest are mostly underclassmen who have made few short appearances.
Only one OL recruit, the Cleeland brother who had walked on at Washington but hasn’t seen action.

Not having Simonson to play his last year is a big blow to the OL. However, if it's Harper at QB (and that's not set in stone), the blind side is actually from the RT spot with Harper being a southpaw, where Nava...is....graduating? Maybe I read somewhere that said he could be coming back.

Nava is one of the players who played at a non NCAA program (JC) and there is a recent rule granting all players in that category a fifth year if their eligibility otherwise expired in 2024 season. He played four years straight.

That's a lot a football and a huge commitment.

That's four money games in two years to start the year (what's the money deal with the Mercer game with ESPN, curious) - sounds like a ramp up to help pool the funds needed to jump to the Mountain West. Have to think that with a jump, an upgrade to the Stadium will be required. Need a bump to at least 25,000, with Utah State being the smallest capacity stadium in the Mountain West currently at just over 25k. THAT, to see it mildly is a massive jump in capacity, a massive overhaul project - and a massive leap of faith that we can get anywhere close to that many fans showing up to watch Davis play Wyoming.

Yeeeeeeah, Dallas would be a much bigger draw given my locale than Montgomery. And the Niners will play the Cowboys on the road in 2026 as well. Wow, could be one heck of a weekend….

I'm not sure about the 2026 UNLV game.....San Diego seems to have taken that date on the UCD schedule. UNLV doesn't have their 2026 schedule up.....and the FBS schedules site doesn't show us listed @ UNLV....
