Cal Maritime Academy is well known for the training ship that can often be seen docked in the Carquinez straits. The Keelhaulers are an NAIA school as a member of the California Pacific Conference along with former opponent Menlo. As you might recall, Menlo gave the Aggies all kinds of trouble, so CMA shouldn’t be taken lightly. At the same time, they have no one like the 6’9” Landon Seaman who poured in 24 points on UC Davis. The Keelhaulers tallest starter appears to be senior DeAndre Minor who is 6’5”. Hard to say who to worry about since no one on their team averages more than 11 ppg.

The Ags try to bounce back from a miserable showing in Malibu, but might be a bit rusty (but hopefully chastened) for not having played in week, while Cal Maritime played on Monday against that well known power, Nelson University, who blew them out 123-89. This game ought to be a good tune up prior to resuming conference play next month.

I expect that this will be the smallest crowd of the year. It will be a double-header though with the women taking on Cal Maritime also at 1 pm.

I make as many games as I can when there aren’t family conflicts…..I might have to come up with a conflict to miss this one!

So, i think my wife and I are coming up for at least the men's game. The Keelhaulers are 3-8 but are scoring 84 points a game, firing up 26 3-pointers a game (33% shooting), but give up nearly 90! Opponents are shooting a bit over 50%. It would be nice to see us come out hot from the field, see TY get some easy baskets to ease the pressure on him, and put up triple digits. Starting the new year on the road at Bako and CSUN is not an easy start, so be nice to see the Aggies play loose and confident.

You deserve a medal. Or at least courtside seats.

I figure we have a fighting chance of winning the In n Out loudest row contest.

I wonder why the odd starting time. I like it because out here in Hawai`i it's mid-afternoon, but in California it runs into dinner time for some, no? ESPN gives the Ags a 99% chance of winning. Seems low.

the women are playing maritime at 1:00. I’m guessing they are giving away alot of kid tickets today.

After their mauling in Malibu, I don't think the Ags will be overconfident in this one as they were a few years back.

51-20 at the 4 minute media timeout. Turnovers are something like 12-1, and we’re shooting really well.

I’d like to see Lose get some buckets - he doesn’t look very confident on the offensive end this season

As hard as it was to see the Aggies get blown out by Pepperdine, it's not much fun seeing them outscore an overmatched team at a 3:1 ratio. But I'll take it. If UCD keeps scoring 3 points a minute they'll wind up with over 120. The school record is 123.

The Aggie women beat Cal Maritime today 115-29. The score at the half was 53-7 and Cal Maritime didn't score a single point in the second quarter.

I have to confess that the main reason I'm still watching is to see if the Ags can break the school record.

Ags win 109-46 and Prongos got a bucket. Nice to see the bench players get some quality minutes.

only negative stat is FT% (63%). TY was still a little off (6-10) and Tamba continues his struggles (0-3). Both guys get to the line - need to knock them down

The women's 115-29 win over Cal Maritime set a couple of records:

An 86-point win marks the biggest winning scoring margin in Aggie history, beating the previous mark of 85 in a win over Santa Cruz on November 22, 1974.

115 points is the most scored by the Aggies in the Division I era, it's also the most scored at home, with the previous record being 108 in a win over Patten on December 28, 1996.

The talk at the intermission between games was that we got Maritime because the initially scheduled games with William Jessup were pushed off by the NCAA for . . . reasons. Something on the Jessup end was the problem. The only fill-in was Maritime.

I felt badly for the Keel Hauler women who were terribly over-matched. Some very sad faces walked past us at the intermission between games.

On the other hand for both the men and the women we got to see the offense move as intended.

I'm incredibly upbeat on our future women's backcourt: Bennett and Sussex both look really capable. I get the feeling Sussex won't get flustered - there's an air of confidence in her play and Bennett the same. They've adapted to the offense and seem to really "getting" college play. I think they'll both make contributions during conference this year.

Sahana Kanagasabay, even with the knee brace, showed some real quickness and a knowledge of where she was on court. And Fitzgerald definitely showed herself to good advantage. She's an interesting counterpoint to Norris in the center, possibly not as quick but she works for rebounding position well, blocks out, and seems to be coming on well.

Conference is going to be fun.

I agree there's much to like about Bennett and Sussex. In addition to what you mentioned 1) they can both play either guard spot comfortably and 2) they both seem to have a solid mid-range game in addition to shooting 3's or going to the basket. We've had good guard play for years, but I think it's been since the Nakekh-Nagel-Gianotti era that our grads were effective scorers at all three levels. And 3) they seem to play well together already.

It was great to see Kangasabay get her first extended playing time and respond as well as she did. I'm hopeful she'll get some more on Thursday against CSUB. It's tough to be playing the same position as Sabel this year. Vic Baker can play that spot as well and so can Clara Glad, who also has difficulty getting minutes. It was great to see Glad come out aggressively yesterday as well. Showed she can play the 4 as well as the 3.

As for Fitzgerald, she only played in 7 games (30 minutes total) at Colorado her freshman year before getting injured. I liked her too and I hope she stays healthy - seems to be a bit of an issue - continues to develop and stays for a redshirt senior year.

Bennett, Sussex, Glad, Kanagasabay, Theoni Tsami (injured this year) and Fitzgerald, assuming she plays a 5th year, will be the core the first year in the Mountain West.
