Biggest surprises are Idaho hanging around with Oregon and Cal Poly losing to San Diego. Idaho appears to be solid defensively, but even with that being the case Oregon should have mopped the floor with them. Kuddos to the Vandals. Cal Poly losing to San Diego is concerning for their program. San Diego is not the powerhouse of the Pioneer that they once were. Cal Poly has had decently good recruiting classes the last couple of seasons, but I'm not sure Wulff has this thing moving in the right direction.

San Diego scored on two pick 6’s, before they finally took out Kelly (Huard left after last year). Poly had less than 10
Yards rushing. They got down to the 1 on a PI under two minutes down 10, failed to punch it in twice, had to throw for TD. I think another tough year for mustangs.

I turned on Texas AM game late when it was still close (24-14 I think) but the stats were very lopsided. They looked fast but not very skilled.

Idaho defense was Bens but not break. They played with a lot of confidence and the deeper in the game you could sense that Oregon was worrying - and I think part of that due to new personnel. Looking at the stats, one would not of thought the score would be that close.

One thing I note towards the end of the game was Jack Lane, QB for Idaho, going into the locker room dangling his throwing arm. That could be problematic. For Idaho if he is unavailable for some time.

Weber did “ok” but unable to pass against Washington.

Poly - should they just drop down to the Pioneer league? I guess that would be problematic after construction the Madden workout bus.

Missouri State almost took down Montana. The MO state QB looked good and they have a good running back. WA-Griz stadium must be about a 10 point advantage for the home team. Multiple false starts for Mo. State due to noise. I think the jury is still out on who the starting quarterback for Montana will be. The Fresno State transfer came in after Ayat (sp?) and looked steadier. Neither QB were lights out. Montana talk was of course that they would easily win - they were fortunate to get the win.

    Week 2 games:

    Saturday, September 7
    Idaho (0-1) @ Wyoming (0-1)
    Western Oregon (0-0) @ Idaho State (0-1)
    Montana (1-0) @ North Dakota (0-1)
    Cal Poly (0-1) @ Stanford (0-1)
    Northern Colorado (0-1) @ Colorado State (0-1)
    Drake (0-0) @ Eastern Washington (1-0)
    Maine (1-0) @ Montana State (2-0)
    Portland State (0-1) @ Weber State (0-1)
    Northern Arizona (1-0) @ Arizona (1-0)
    Sacramento State (0-1) @ Fresno State (0-1)

    - After their impressive performance against Oregon, we'll see if Idaho can pull off a FBS scalp against Wyoming. Was Oregon a fluke or are the Vandals for real? I don't see any other FCS vs FBS matchups where the FCS has much of a chance this week.
    - Drake? Maine? How did these games get scheduled in the Big Sky?
    - Montana @ UND and Portland State @ Weber State should both be interesting games.

how the heck do the Lincoln Oaklanders get scheduled in the Big Sky

At least like a regional argument could be made, although I'd be embarrassed if the Ags scheduled them. Most FCS match ups stay fairly regional. Not sure how Maine and MSU came together.

I’m still hoping we get an Ivy out here. Both Poly and USD have hosted in the recent past.

I think the Ivies and the service academies would be great games for the Ags. I wouldn't mind a home and home with a good team like Maine also.

USD played a home-home with Harvard in 18-19; Poly played Brown in 18.

That game vs Brown was the Bear's opener, Poly's third game. that's part of the scheduling challange. Ivies don't like to come cross country for their opener vs a team with 2 games under their belt. The situation was the same for USD/Harvard.

Apparently Idaho's starting QB had to have surgery for a broken collarbone and is expected to be out "several weeks" due to reports. That could have huge implications for their season. We'll see how they do against a bottom of the barrel FBS team with a backup QB.

Somehow the Tubs at the Club guys mentioned David Myer and Rex Connors, but not Porter.
Davis defense played solid as a whole. Even some of the substitute d-line players made plays., secondary as a whole had a great game. Holding Cal to under 300 yards is a noteworthy achievement and the defense was still sound in the 4th quarter. I think categorizing the game as a typical FCS FBS game where the FCS team wore down is wrong.

Four of the teams on our schedule now have an FBS win (counting Cal, and Montana beating a transitioning team). Every win will be critical this year for a playoff push

Montana dominated the game in the first half. UND came roaring back in second half. Home crowd made a difference. Will have to watch the Bobby Hauck post game interview when it comes up with his expected terse, Jack-@@@ responses to the media.
