The tempo makes it harder for the opposing defense to substitutes between plays. But if the offense can’t sustain drives than their own defense doesn’t get a significant rest.
Didn’t think about JT as a possibility, but it makes sense. I know he was a college athletics administrator for a while (I saw him raise an eyebrow at my Davis shirt in passing at SDSU) and now he’s got the pedigree of that excellent analysis series.
I did see he tweeted at Plough if we want to get very sleuthy about this
That they have one “in place” sounds like they have someone who has agreed to terms but can’t announce it right now. To me that sounds like someone currently employed by a team and they don’t want to announce it as it might impact a bowl game or recruiting.
I don’t think it will be a former players who has not been coaching. That would be great if they hire a QB coach.
I think Daft is likely comfortable where he is, so I think someone else.
For a real reach on who it might be: A guy who has been an offensive coordinator and QB coach for NFL teams that got. $2 million buyout from Kentucky. Whatever he earns decreases the buyout so maybe he doesn’t care about the salary. Got his start coaching at Davis under Biggs. Rich Scangarello
Buddy Teavens, the former HC at Dartmouth, was in a bike accident and passed away this past year. New HC Sammy McCorkle has been given the job, and it appears 2 Ivy veterans are above Daft. If Daft's wife is also from California, family and weather are huge draws.
Hawk pulled Coombs, so anything is possible.
FWIW, Gary Patterson is a finalist at Houston for HC.
I'm always waiting to see if Keith Buckley would ever make his way back to Davis. He's been at Pacific University of Oregon (D3) for 15ish years and now the director of athletics.
Coombs got a big promotion from defensive analyst to defensive coordinator. And he had very limited experience as a defensive analyst and quality control guy, just a few years.
If it is Daft that would be great, as he a Plough must have worked well together the year they shared a role, or Plough wouldn’t choose him.
Never know, could be on of the players too. Think they take a guy like JT conway, or Grant harper and just make them the “OC” while Plough calls the plays?
Friends of the Larison's put together a Causeway Classic tape, including the game, tailgate, Poppa Larison, and ginger "Sexy Lexi". Nice CC highlights.
Great video. So LL and. TT stay. Right? Right? Be sure because my family wants to know if they can take me off the ventilator or not. seriously if they indeed stay we will have a very competitive situation next year despite the guys leaving. Aggies will be a very enticing place to come to for some portal guys too as we will be winning a lot of game next season.
PS: was that a full bar at the tailgate? Wow. That’s my kind of tailgating.
You gotta love Plough's vision and enthusiasm. I think he's going to give Aggie football an adrenaline dose of energy and Aggie fans are going to love it. It will really help our recruiting to sell that message in a big way too.
We definitely got a guy who wants to be here. That should be priority #1, enthusiasm for the position, then recruiting, then making sure nobody's flunking out, then x's and o's of course.
I just realized Hawk usually had a number of close associates on staff, which he didn't have this year. Cody was gone, along with veterans Mark Speckman, Sam Young, and of course Foster (three on offense). Speckman, Cody, and Foster have been with him everywhere.
Mike Cody who arrived in 2021 as an offensive line coach is the longest serving coach on offense. Total turnover after Plough, Keane, and Speckman left before 2021 Spring season. Correction: Speckman left after 2021 season.
Best of luck to Andre Allen. I don't know if it was scheme or what, but our WR corps did not pop much of the year. Am excited to see what Gbatu can do in 2024.
I thought Pat McCann might he a candidate for OC, but turns out he's the OC now at Fresno State (via EWU). He seemed to have a good rapport w WRs, and he had great timing in coaching Barriere.
I'm guessing the OC posting is more a formality than anything. At the introduction presser it sounded pretty much like Plough already had his guy for the job.
