If you have that much of a moral dilemma about it maybe you should have just stuck to SDSU stuff for the week. I get that it's a public forum, but come on dude.

I'm not going to turn my back on my favorite college sports forum for the coolest matchup I could have wished for. Nor did I ever expect to find unique information here that wasn't available elsewhere and/or posted early enough so that I could be confident the staff would eventually find it on their own.

I do want to diffuse things here and admit I spoke too harshly before -- all I want to point out is that we need to be cautious in general of inside information. You were totally right at the time to post (and as an Aggie fan I was super excited to read it) it because it was in the newspaper. I totally agree that this particular game probably won't be determined on such vague info.

Whether or not I decide to do anything about it is my problem; I'll sleep on it. There's a good chance that the coaches won't care what I have to pass on to them anyway, as you said. I admit I was wrong to stir the pot in the first place, while I stand by my note of caution I don't think I should have brought in the SDSU athletics stuff at all, and for that I apologize for the apparent antagonism.

I was just joking buddy. I don't feel like you have the moral dilemma you think you do. Whatever was in the Enterprise and posted here is info I am sure Long and his staff already knew. It's going to be a fun game and I think UCD will keep it close for a while. And maybe if we hand with them long enough it will get into the heads of all those freshmen. Anything's possible in college football, which is what makes it so great. But an FCS school coming off a 3-8 record going against the #25 team with a back SDSU's coach seems to like as much as Pumphrey is a tall order.

Yeah I wasn't trying to be a jerk man. It's just I don't know what to tell you. If you are employed by SDSU athletics you have to have understood potential implications of looking at UCD info. Like I said and Bige reinforced, I don't think this really makes an impact in the long run.

Don't you find it interesting that "wily" Hawkins never laid out our offensive strategy in multiple interviews in print and radio over 3 months? And why is he so vague in naming our 2 deeps.

I err on the side of caution, esp. on the first game where we are huge underdogs.

Bige70, there is more than size and speed and divisional association. Coach Sochor was big on the element of surprise. Am I wrong? Small advantages here and there, plus execution, add up. Should we have told UOP our free safety ran a 4.4 40? Should we blab when our QB is playing hurt and can't throw the long ball?

Maybe follow the DE and remove the offending quotes.

I apologize for being argumentative with you, but man... you have to think within reason. SDSU in some polls is top 25. Sure, they have some young guys and we still have element of surprise, but the terms used earlier are very broad. Most teams in the country run some pro and spread sets. It's not like the playbook got leaked. I'm looking forward to a game in which hopefully the Aggies are competitive, but we should try to not get ahead of ourselves on the success we may or may not have this season.

The game notes for both teams are up on the Aggie Athletics website. Our depth chart lists 34 players on offense, 32 on defense and 5 specialists. Looks like Hawk is making a game time decision about our staters!

The offensive line for SDSU is huge. Eight of the 10 players listed on their 2 deep OL are 300+ pounds. It's going to be tough grind for the Aggie D especially as the game wears on and containing their running game is going to be a challenge.

Well that escalated quickly! I don't think anyone here wants our secrets leaked and values the element of surprise. I just didn't think the plough comments were keys to the kingdom. I'm sure he got an ass-chewing from Dan since the line was pulled from the DE article. In any case, all of us on the board only want the Ags to get back to our winning ways quickly as possible. Let's have a great game Saturday!

Why should we make their life any easier?

The depth chart was the most vague I have ever seen. I don't believe Hawk is making 20-odd player decisions game week. But I hear Tiger Garcia and Brock Dale look particularly strong.

For your sanity I deleted that post. But man, I do think you need to chill. Also talking about key positions, that's just poor journalism on the part of guys down south. There have been press releases and newspaper articles up here saying, while no starter has been named, Maier has been running the 1st team offense. Again, this is stuff that Long's staff will have seen. I get that you want the boys to have every advantage, I really do, but people discuss team strats on these fan forums all of the time.

More good reads from the Enterprise:

One odds maker has the Ags as a 48 point underdog:

    Plough praises the receiving corps:

Many players still competing for spots but the starters on the O-line and QB are probably set:

I am now 100 percent chilled out brother. ... I have read some articles from down south, and I have no desire to assist their journalists (or coaches)... I would have been tempted to send a "spy" to our last scrimmage, not sure of the ethics there. ... We were competitive last year with Oregon.

Will we load the box for Perry? Can we also seal the edge? ... One sportswriter in San Diego said to also expect to see Perry lined up in the slot, and maybe as a WR.

I hope the Howard Way Field had helped us to keep injuries down. Go Ags!

New articles out on the Aztecs.

First refferred to them being in diapers bc of their youth, and suggested a big reason for starting the young WRs was for bigger bodies for blocking.

Second article is from the San Diego Daily News, "5 Things to Watch".

Coach Long guaranteed a victory if we came out in a traditional pro set, but he knows we won't.

He said he's "heard" we are working on 2 or 3 trick plays every practice.

@Zander What would be your suggestion for getting to the game? Does it make sense to park at Qualcomm or instead park nearby and take the Trolley?
  • Zander
    193
I've never tried parking at the Q so I can't say for sure. It's going to be a zoo either thing you try.

If you for sure have access to parking somewhere along the line then it might be worth it to Trolley in. It's somewhat less hassle so long as you're willing to be patient and and be packed like sardines.

New to posting, but reading these boards for years. I went to UC Davis long enough ago to have seen the Ags be a dominant and consistent program. I still go to a game or two a year, but it has been tough to watch and not left my kids with a great impression of the school. For the first time in years I am excited about the new season. I know it will take time, but at least there is a sense that things will get better.

Best DI team we have ever faced?

Given that this is on Facebook, is it possible that a sports bar will show it?
  • CA Forever

Nah, Boise State was ranked #5 when we played them in 2009. They ended up going 14-0 on the season, but we were able to hang tough with them for a large part of the game.

We lost by 18. Petersen might have been taking it easy on us cause these teams lost to Boise by more than that margin: Miami (OH), Bowling Green, Hawaii, San Jose State, Idaho, Utah State, and New Mexico State.

Also, bars could potentially show it if they have smart TV's that are capable of streaming it or if they have a projector hooked up. The grad might be playing it for those in the Davis region, but don't quote me on that.
  • Zander
    193
I am 90% sure that the Grad has a laptop or something hooked up to their projector (for the purposes of Big West TV) so it's a good bet they'll have the game barring a licensing issue.

SDSU's current talent level doesn't put them on the level of top 10 Boise or some of the recent pac12 teams I think. Remember it was only a few years ago that the Ags played Stanford with Hogan and McCaffrey on the field.

This might be among the most tickets ever distributed for an Aggie game though; I don't know how big Autzen is but it can't be too much larger than 50k.

Oooof...Bob Dunning picks SDSU by 35...

    Excerpt:

"SAN DIEGO STATE over AGGIES … talk about a baptism of fire, Dan Hawkins might have to suit up himself if he hopes to get a win in his first game as UC Davis head coach. On the bright side, the Aggies will come back with a fat paycheck (400,000 smackers) in their back pocket. Take the Aztecs by 35."
