After splitting a pair of games last week, the Aggies are still in 3rd place in the Big West, tied with LBSU. The Beach comes in with a 3 game losing streak, but did best UCD in Southern California earlier in the season. A win over Long Beach would also allow the Aggies to keep the conference co-leaders within striking distance.
The Beach (69.3 ppg.) has moved just ahead of Davis as the highest scoring team in the conference, led by Savannah Tucker at 16.0 ppg., Jada Crawshaw at 11.1 ppg., and Patricia Chung at 8.8 ppg.. LBSU is also the Big West’s best rebounding team, again just ahead of the Aggies. Rachel Loobie, at 7.9 rpg. leads LBSU, backed by a quartet of teammates who each pull down between 5 and 6 rpg.
Tucker got her points (26!), but ended up being nearly half of LBSU's scoring as they went 19-72 from the field.
Epps (24), Sabel (15), and Baker (15) in double figures for the Aggies. Sabel and Burns (again!) the leading Davis rebounders with 10 each; team out-rebounded LBSU by a good margin. FT and 3pt shooting back about where they need to be for the Aggies.
Harris went out in the 2nd half with an ankle injury, She iced it and then was in a boot. She didn’t return. Brianna didn’t play nor take place in warmups (between halves for sure) with a knee wrapped.
Epps’ scoring just sort of happened. She had some fine drives and nice 3’s.
We were lucky LB couldn’t shoot worth diddly. They were below 25% for much of the game. A couple of 3’s at the end of the game may have helped with the final percentage.
More than scoring though 8/10 from field, 2/3 beyond the arc & 5/6 from the line is big time. Added 4 boards & 4 assists plus blanketing defense. GO NYA!!
Lots of players stepped up with Bria out then Maxxie going out. Then Sabel and Norris in foul trouble. Clara Glad suffocated LB defensively and Ally Fitzgerald had 4 blocks playing with a tweaky back. She wears a heating pad/stimulator while on the bench. Gritty performance by the Aggies, despite turnovers.
