Well, he, Tompkins) is going to get a great education here. And he will be playing a lot of football at UC Davis. Yes he will also pass the ball now and again when you/they least expect it. Secret weapon??? Only the Hawk knows.. . . .
I think we're missing Tim plough. We have crazy talent on offense, but the play calling is really conservative. Thank goodness for the defense, which is much, much better.
It really looked to me that the staff thought we could establish the ground game -- with our admittedly very good #2 back and OL and mobile QB -- and keep ISU's decent-ish offense off the field. Their record doesn't really indicate they can play particularly strong defense, but no UG and a shaky day for HR today allowed the Bengals to play their best D of the season.
That failed, but our defense rose to the occasion anyway
How often have we been able to take the approach that when the game is on the line we’re going to run the ball? Maybe we can’t do that against everyone but we did that against Idaho and Idaho State,in the fourth quarter.
Shows a lot of confidence in the offensive line.
We aren’t surprising anyone and they didn’t stop us.
I think the play calling will get more aggressive as they gain more confidence in the QBs.
That was a great game. Idaho State looks very competitive, Vander Waal has a cannon, and made some incredible throws. Aggies put it together to get the win, but it looked like Idaho State had control late in the game.
I think the offense seems much more conservative, partly because we run the QB more. But the passing game has been mostly short passes with an occasion (rare) deep shot. TE wasn’t used at all yesterday and their stacked defense seemed clone a great opportunity to get him down the field in the crease. I think part of the pound it out is us trying to reestablish an attitude in the program. 2019 we seemed soft compared to some of the better teams; this spring we’re tightening the chin straps and going toe to toe
The wildcat adds an interesting twist, but taking a TO takes away a bit. Have we run no huddle w HR? Notice the huge play w Hutton on the final drive:
- misdirection right
- HR rolls out left
- pass on 1st down
Maybe we're playing chess and limiting the playbook w EWU on deck. Beat EWU, likely in the playoffs and no Montana's to grind through.
The Trent Tompkins post game comments are very encouraging.
That throw to Hutton was a beautiful play. He had something similar on a rollout where he led Herrel perfectly for a 20 pass that was dropped - that looked like it would have gone for 30 yard gain. He’s good on the move, designed or improvised.
I dont get channel 31 out here in Sonoma County, so I use Pluto which is fine. My only issue with Pluto is their camera work is a bit odd at times. HR was completely out of the picture a lot of the time at the start of a play. They need a wider angle lens to get everything on the screen. Is channel 31 better?
A new wrinkle the final possession was having both Tompkins and Rodrigues in the backfield. They had that for several plays, first a run by Tompkins to the right and then the pass to the left by Rodrigues to Crawford that brought the ball down to the six. Barry commented on the play that he was surprised ISU didn’t have another corner opposite our triple set to the left. I bet they were leery of Tompkins getting the snap, or were just confused.
Pluto is the 31 feed from what I understand. Marsh and Barry are the 31 guys and they mention it during the broadcast. We just don’t get the commercials on Pluto
Didn't notice anything weird about the channel 31 broadcast like that. Like DrMike said we're getting the same feed.
HOWEVER, it could be there is some setting on your Pluto App where it's trying to send too big of a picture and cutting off part of the picture on your screen; I've seen it before and can maybe be fixed in TV "Overscan" settings. All that means is there's some sloppy camera work by the TV crew since it's generally best practice to be conservative with the edges of the screen, since some TVs or monitors will cut them off and others won't.
Someone pointed out ro me where to find the game on Pluto on a TV. I use Roku. It’s in the live sports section up in the 1000s. Scroll down enough and you’ll see it.
