Poly came to Davis on January 27th and got solidly thumped by the Aggies 80-56. It was one of the most complete games the Aggies have played all season and it appeared that the the Ags were really beginning to hit their stride in the race for the Big West Championship. All of that has changed dramatically with the indefinite suspension of Chima Moneke.
The Aggies' 19 game home winning streak is gone and the team is now sporting a two game home losing streak. The prospects of Moneke being reinstated grow less likely as each additional day goes by with no word from the university. We are a middle of the pack team in the Big West without Moneke so all of our remaining games will be a very tough challenge beginning at Poly tonight.
I expect this game will be a close one given the circumstances and Poly will be chomping at the bit for a little payback. Our guards have stepped up in the absence of Moneke but we are not getting a lot of help from our bigs. Garrison Goode has certainly been much more aggressive offensively than we have ever seen from him but we also need solid help from AJ John and Colin Russell. It's going to be tough going from here on out unless we can shore up the interior.
We need some guys to step up, with the Moneke situation still up in the air, they need to play with who they have. Hopefully Mooney can keep adding some scoring, we need every player to add a bit more going forward.
we need a win BADLY tonight. if Hawaii can somehow beat Irvine, and have the Beach beat UCSB. we'd be in a logjam at the top (Santa Barbara has 1 fewer game and loss).
